Please help! Whenever I brake there is a terrible rolling sound coming from the back tires/area of my 2001 Grand Prix. It is definately not the brake pads since I just had all four of them replaced by a mechanic who told me that was the problem. Well apparently it was not. Besides, it's not a squealing sound at all. It's really a rolling, almost pumping sound and feeling that only happens when I brake. It almost feels like if I brake too hard something is going to snap. Does anyone know what this could be?

I don't think it's the rotors because I had to have the front ones replaced when I had the front brake pads replaced so I know what a bad rotor looks like and the back ones did not look grooved or anything.

Have your rear wheel bearings and seals checked. You might have a dry bearing back there.

the only confident thank you to tell if a noise is coming from the front or rear is to the two stick your head out the window at the same time with your ultimate ear in direction of the front and the left ear in direction of the back or the different determination is to have a buddy run alongside the realm of the motor vehicle to pay attention. infrequently anybody machines rotors anymore, the cheap imported rotors artwork wonderful and are even surfaced an further step to quit noise, (flow hatched). Your concern is far less costly, stressful brake pads. I consistently propose going with top classification brake pads. they are basically $10 to $20 greater and over the existence of the brake pastime will value $.02 an afternoon for no airborne dirt and dust or noise. the cheap, stressful brake pads will additionally reason the rotors to warp notably with the resurfacing through fact now they are thinner with much less metallic to use up the warmth.

Have you ever braked while driving down a hill then hit a puddle of water. If so there may be some warping. But if not I don't know what to tell you if I don't know what type of brakes you have. Seeing how it is a 01 model you should have disc brakes. And if they are new rear brakes the pads will need to seed first. Do you have a full brake peddle? Do you have good brakes? Is the concern soully on the sound it makes? I don't know what a pumping sound would sound like on a brake. Does that mean that the sound kinda skips. If that is the case then I think that you just need to let your brakes seed.(the mrs)

I'm not sure if you have 4 wheel disc or front disc and rear drum brakes. There may be a problem with the drum being warped or if it is a rotor then the rotor warped. Hard to say without hearing the noise. You may want to take it back to the repair shop and see what they say. good luck

Sounds like your brake drums are bad. I would definitely do to a mechanic who specializes in brakes andhave them take a look at it. You don;t want to be without working brakes!

could be your callipers(sp?) that happened to my car. Or the brake drum. Eitherway sounds like you need new back brakes not just pads.

if your mechanic didn't turn the rear drums or rotors, whatever you have in the back, more than likely thats your problem, it sounds like they are warped.
