I have a problem with my dishwasher, I rent a property and the dishwasher is included, but it leaves a silt like substance on the plates etc, and I then have to wash them to get it off!
I have added salt, more rinse aid and I use those tablets with everything in them? I am not convinced the rinse aid is working at all - any ideas????

Well you've done all the obvious things so the next thing to do is check the water is getting hot, also make sure the spray arms arm not blocked with rubbish, once you've done that make sure that the water is draining away complete if not, clean the filters and if its plumbed into the sink waste, check its not blocked there. If all else fails, go to your domestic appliance repairers and buy a dishwasher degreaser, not the stuff you but from the supermarket (that's useless) run the dishwasher until the water is getting hot then pour the degreaser in. If all this fails, then you probably need a new dishwasher.

Using 1-2 cups vinegar, run the empty dishwasher through a complete cycle. This will help clean out the jets and the drain.

If this doesn't work, tell your landlord about the problem, and ask him to have it fixed.

Get that bottle of dishwasher cleaner and do a cycle with it in. (No Dishes)

Maybe do a few cycles empty and make sure when you are washing the things can spin around.

I don't use a rinse aid.
I clean mine out each month with the bottle stuff

If the water temperature is not high enough (130-140 degrees) the detergent may not be disolving. This can happen even with liquids. You will probably notice your glasses being etched also. When the detergent doesn't fully dissolve, it acts almost like a sandblaster on your dishes.

You have two good options. Jet Dry works well with spots on dishes or you could call your landlord and have him fix the dishwasher since you pay them for it.
