The question has nothing to do with the sun. I hope this will help and maybe the answerers will modify their answers.

The best time is after 12 mid night till 6 am. and look to the east as that is the direction the earth is traveling around the sun. Many more pieces will come through at that time than any other.

This is a truly stupid question. If I face the East, I'm looking in one direction, and if I turn and face the West, another direction entirely. "Upward" is not correct either, because I may be looking near the horizon, or more toward the zenith. Think a bit next time you think you have a clever question, and you'll no doubt realize that you don't.

It actually depends on your the way you are positioned. For example, if the sun is setting and you can see the sunset, then you are facing west. If the sunset is directly behind you, you are facing east. If it is to your left or right, then you are facing north or south (respectively). It works the same for sunrise. If you can see the sunrise, you are facing east. If it is directly behind you;west. But this time, if it is to your left you are facing SOUTH and to your right you are facing NORTH. That is basically how it works.

You know, I know the answers, but I'm not here to entertain you, or validate you as a "gameshow host".
