Actually, that answer is easy.
King Solomon was the wisest man on the earth.
In the book of Ecclesiastes, he examined all of the activities of man, from worldly wealth to sexual immorality and declared that 'all is vanity and vexation of spirit.'
And after his examination of the paths of man he makes a simple delcaration that sums up human existence.
Ecc 12:13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.
Ecc 12:14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.
In short, God made man to have fellowship with him. Man disobeyed God and sin entered into the world separating God and man.
Christ came into the world to pay the price for this transgression and restore us to right standing with God by faith in his name.
Therefore, Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.
