In the middle of ten acres I own I was constructing a house when the state stopped by and asked to see my building permit .
I said I have none and get off my land . He said stop working and I said leave .
He got on a radio and in minutes the police where there and ordered me to stop or I would be arrested .
On my own land working for my own benefit it seems the state takes a major interest and can control what I do .
I said since I must stop working on the house I will clean my shot gun leaning next to me and the police said do not move or we will shoot .
SO I can not work on my house or clean my gun . What is it I can do in police state america anymore .
If i do not do it in secret or private some states have sodomy laws that prevent me from having sex in the manner I might want .
You might be happy in this cage called America and enjoy meddling in others affairs but freedom ended the day property taxes where enacted and its only gotten worse .

Did you know that if the water heater in your home breaks you have to get a permit to replace it?

The Lord's Prayer is 66 words, the Gettysburg Address is 286 words, there are 1,322 words in the Declaration of Independence, but government regulations on the sale of cabbage total 26,911 words.

Things you can not do legally without government permission:
Operate a business
Drive a car
Get married
Modify/construct a permanent structure
Travel outside the country
Have a security system in your home
Carry a hand gun

Things you cannot legally do without government interferrence and/or regulation:
In addition to the above
Have a rental property
Shop
Talk on the phone
Have a bank account
Go to church
Watch TV
Get an education
Pay your utilities
Give birth
Travel within the country
Be employed
Have employees
Own property
Give gifts
Invest
Engage in commerce
Surf the internet
Donate to non-profit organizations
Go to the doctor
Have a home
Be homeless
Eat
Drink
Have sex
Go swimming
Take off your own clothes
Pay taxes
Engage in recreational activities
Die

Please note that neither of these lists are exhaustive but it should be enough to illustrate the point. The government is way too involved in our daily lives. The sad thing is that big as those lists are, America has fewer government restrictions than any other nation in history.

Your land is located within the boundaries of a state. States have not just the right but the obligation to regulate activity such as construction. A building permit insures you are in compliance with those regulations.

Like it or not, your activities impact those around you. Let me tell you just some of the concerns of the State and the welfare of others:

Presumably if you are building a house, someone is going to live there. That someone is going to p-ss and sh-t on a daily basis. That excrement has to go somewhere. The various water tables have been mapped out by geologists, and they have identified those areas where it is safe to install septic systems, and those areas that require sewage to be piped out.

Residential and industrial zoning is vital to control traffic patterns and protect the safety of residents.

If you build a house and live there, and it falls down on you, that's your problem. But once you build a house, you also have the right to rent it out to others. Because the State does not regulate what houses may be rented, they must insure that all houses are safe to live in.

You don't like living in this cage, move elsewhere. But I have bad news for you: America has a higher tolerance for (and population of) anti-social rednecks than just about any other country.

Sorry this happened, but the law is what the law is, and you have to have a building permit to build. Why? They don't want unsafe dwellings built. I live close enough to Mexico, I often go there and I am continually amazed at the construction there. Some is quite good, some is actually excellent, as good as anything you could find in the US, but some is a disaster waiting to happen, and I guess back in history this country had enough houses develop serious problems that standards were set and projects have to meet them. Plus the construction industry likes to make business for itself by getting cities to impose rather difficult requirements that only they can meet. I do think America has gotten way top heavy with over regulation. It might be time to consider moving to a less restrictive (FREE) country.

Your kidding right?

You can't build your own house without state approved plans and a building license, and a bonded construction license...the reason is plain. The only way the state can guarantee that your property is safe to live in is with these stipulations. Lets say you are allowed to build your house and in ten years you sell it, and it collapses on the family that bought it, YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE!!!! If you went throught the licensing and bonding then your insurance company would be responsible. But the house wouldn't fall down, because professional experts have planned and built your house to code.

This isn't the 1800's brother, where everyone had to build there own house whatever way they could, we have standards in this century to make sure that buildings are safe and up to code in a number of area (pluming, electrical etc.) This protects you and anyone else that could acquire your property in the future.

That bit about cleaning your shotgun in front of a police officer is just your own BLATANT stupidity. If you are so stupid to think that a cop is going to let an angry, belligerent citizen handle a firearm in front of them ANYWHERE then I guess this sound answer will not be to your liking.

It is not about your rights, it about the future rights of people who could acquire your property to a safe home. Jerk!

So sell the land and move to somewhere with complete freedom, like Iraq.

Building permits are for EVERYONE's protction so some buttwipe doesn't sticka toxic waste dump next to a grade school.

I hear there's a house in Ruby Ridge for sale, even comes complete with stupid anti government posters on the walls. Or there's athat abandoned compound in Waco, it will go cheap cuz they had a little fire damage. Or you could always grab up Ted Kaszinki's old shack in the woods.

You support the Patriot Act but not property tax laws? Amazing you can even feed yourself or keep from soiling your pants.

I have no problem with lines and boundaries. Building permits are needed because goof balls try to Jerry-rig their houses. Idiots that think they know something about plumbing or electrical. It causes a hazard to those around them.

Oh, and you said you own your land in this hypothetical question. But do you own the mineral rights? Yeah, more rights are taken away there too.

But we all know Big brother has his greedy hand in everything

Feeling a little anti-social are we? By the way, the supreme court made a major decision on sodomy laws a few years ago, and, said states DO NOT have the right to enforce such laws between consenting adults.

You have to have a permit to build. It is there to prevent you from building a home that is going to fall down on your family. Permits and inspections are just to make sure that you are constructing a safe building. As long as you get the permits and inspections, you can build whatever you want on your land.

just plant 9 of your 10 private acres of land with hemp and they will stop bothering you about building permits and code enforcement.
Maybe you should consider living elsewhere, apparently there's land available in Mexico, at least with millions of illegals here they must have left some vacancies behind.

Will, if the US allow me to build a house without a permit I will just build a garage instead of a house next the Bush ranch. Including a chicken coop and a cow farm. I bet the Bush family will love it.

Maybe I will run an Asian whore house next to the Bush ranch too since the Bush brothers do love Asian whores.
