Yes they are. They last a lot longer than regular plugs. I just changed mine that had 97,000 miles on them and they were still good.

Some cars are designed for them.
Another point is that they do burn cleaner and hotter.
They do last longer. I have replaced platinum plugs after 60K miles and they were still clean. I might have been able to get another 60K out of them, however the cost was not enough to warrant the move.
Regular plugs do not last this long.
IMHO- Yes they are worth the cost, because they yield better mileage, both in MPG and life expectancy of the plug.

Every time I tried to run Bosch platinums I literally had to remove them from the vehicle and go to stock. Many domestic vehicles that use champion (Dodge) or Ford (Autolite) and Chevy (AC Delco) need the factory plugs to run at their best because they were set up that way. I put Bosch into an Intrepid and I swear the car was skipping and bucking and running like on 2 cylinders. Put new champions back in per factory spec and it ran great.

Platinum plugs have much longer operating life. Because of that it lowers the engine tune-up process and prolongs your optimal engine performance. Any money you save on regular plug will be lost in lost MPG on worn plugs (and on maintenance labor).
And if you paid a mechanic trying to diagnose "mysterious" performance problem, you are wasting even more money.

Most of the new cars now use the platinum plugs. That way you don't have to worry about them for 100,000 miles. I have pulled out plugs with over 50,000 miles on them and they still look like they are new. So to me, they are worth it.

depends on the car if its a v6 with the intake plenium over one bank of the plugs . they last 60 to 100 k so its cheaper in the long run for labor on taking the thing off every 30 k
