I recomend Kaspersky internet security it dosent slow down the computer plus it updates every hower it is quite expensive but then you can try kaspersky antivirus it does not have a firewall. try it once and you wont want to use anything else they have trial versions for 30 days
it is not comercialized like norton or Mcafee but belive me its the best it also scans archives such as rar and zip

I suggest you go to "MajorGeeks.com" and check out their offerings of free software. I have downloaded 6-8 different ones on my laptop, and dont have a problem with them, but I dont have them all running at same timeeither!!! I'd choose one as you're main one and set it up to block as you're online. Spybot-- Search and Destroy, or Spywear Terminator are pretty good. PC Tools seems to find lots of stuff, but costs.
When I manage to buy one brand online, it'll be "Xoftspy", which the trial version will run but you can't clean, and it's found LOTS of stuff the others won't.

So my suggestion is check out MjrGeeks, choose a few of them, use one mainly, but when you're off the web, unplugged, run the others, because not a single one will get everything. Also, it's okay to add another antispy program with one already installed. You just have to make sure the firewall protection is off, otherwise, the new one will be blocked somewhat.

I've been testing lots and lots of softwares on my laptop recently and here's my choices for good programs:

Spybot--Search and Destroy
Spyware Terminator
A-squared Free
PC Tools
XoftSpySE
Lavasoft/Adware or Adwatch 2007
SUPERantiSpyware
AntiVir Personal Edition
System Mechanic 7
AVG

Most are free downloads, some need to be purchased. Some that are free don't have full options that the bought versions have. But they all work fairly well.

Yeah !
I've tried many AV before this & I have to say that avast is the best ! ~

It uses very little resources & it does protect your PC with little need to consult the user. & it also provide Free Home Edition for personal use & a very affordable price for the Professional Edition .

You'd have to uninstall the current AV you have in your PC as it will mess things up .

Good Luck ~

Avast is good, but it takes up a lot of resources. It depends what antivirus you have right now whether or not you should switch. I prefer AVG to Avast.

Hi hun,
I hav a friend tha uses Avast, he has no probs wiv it wot so eva. Personally, I prefer AVG, its free, doesnt take up 2 many resourses, can run test in background, has scheduling tests facilities and most importantly is FREE!!! Lol! Its a gr8 antivirus, in my opinion.
Evry1 has their preferences wen it comes 2 this subject, I prefer AVG. If ur unsure, test it 4 a few wks or so, then move on 2 anotha 1 & test tha. I did tha & eventually settled on AVG.

most virus are spread through IE. IE is not a safe browser. you should use a more secure browser to protect your PC from virus.

i recommand you to use firefox with Google toolbar. firefox can block any any popup and disable any virus and adware, spyware on webpage, so, firefox is much safer than IE browser. as you know, most of virus spread throught internet and webpage.

besides, firefox is much smaller than IE, so it run faster than IE.

download firefox for free, Just have a try:

You should never have more than one antivirus on your computer at the same time, can cause all sorts of conflicts.

As long as you keep your virus definitions up to date I would recommend any of the many free versions of antivirus that are on the internet

Free Antivirus

Advast is one of the worst anti-virus programs
it does not provide sufficient virus protection

Norton is also very bad as it uses extreme computer power to run and when it runs a scan your computer is useless until its finshed so plz

USE AVG antivirus It free runs easily and smooth
and uses little to none comp power
