Recommended as a good beginner barb, the Cherry Barb is generally peaceful, undemanding, and fairly easy to breed.

Like most barbs, it is a lively little fish and makes a fun addition to a community aquarium. It does tend to be a loner and can be nervous with others, sometimes even with its own species.

The best tankmates are a small school of its own kind and or Neon Tetra, and a selection of other smaller fishes.

The first thing I would suggest is a few more cherry barbs, they like to be in a group of 5-6 at least.

After that most any small tetras would be a good idea. Neons, lemon, penguins, glolights, phantoms... any of those would work. They also like to be in a group, so check them out, pick one type (and only one) you like and add 5-6.

You could then add 2-3 cory catfish to help keep the bottom clean and something like a dwarf gourami for additional color.

Tiger barbs, or danios. You'll need fast fish in there. Nothing slow.
