i was in some severe pain the other night and went to the er where they did an ultrasound and ct scan. The ultrasound confirmed gallstones. They were not clear on how many there were or the size of them. ALso they didnt really tell me what to do about tretment. My pc dr is sending me to see a surgein to see what he says. I am pretty nervous about this. Will i be ok until i get the surgery? If the er thought it was that bad they would have taken it out right away right? Also I was going to a concert with some friends tonight and i was planning on having a drink or 2 socially...is it safe to have a beer? Im so scared, but at the same time I want to be able to live! I am only 23 years old. I was never overweight until my pregnancy then i lost the weight really fast, so maybe this is what casued it?? ANy input is greatly appreiciated...thanks!

gall stones never killed anyone, just makes them wish they were dead on occasion. There is no such thing as an emergency choleycystectomy (gall bladder removal). To minimize the potential for pain, keep to a low fat diet, DONOT
drink alcohol, when you do have pain, stick to a clear liquid diet. Fats and alcohol will make the gall bladder contract to provide bile to metabolize fats and alcohol, and with the stones and inflammation that you have.....it will hurt like blazes again. And while you may not be overweight, gall stones are caused by too much fat in the diet, you may want to consider redefining what you eat.

The gallbladder produces a fluid called bile which can harden into "stones" and block the bile duct. Reasons can include being overweight, being pregnant and rapid weight loss among other things. High risk factors include simply being a woman as well. Although the pain can be severe, the condition is usually not life threatening and is easily handled surgically. The procedure is done laproscopically meaning small incisions with little scarring and relatively quick recovery. Please don't be scared, this is a relatively common condition and can be dealt with quickly. Complications can occur with any surgery but if you have to have one gall bladder surgery is done every day so your surgeon should have plenty of experience. I would stay away from alcohol and fatty foods until after your surgery is done, but ask your doctor just to be sure.

most of gall stones are asymptomatic in the sence that they cause no problems , if they do cause a problem it ranges from a simple billiary colic ( abdominal pain ) , can also cause acute infection of the gall bladder , can cause infection and subsequent pus accumulation in the gall bladder and it can end up in chronic infection where the ptn exepriences upper right abdominal pain whenever he or she eats a heavy or fatty meal .
regarding ur case i think its only a simple billiary colic , its only management is pain relief in e.r and if infection is ruled out by physical examination and lab investigations then its appropriate to assign u for surgical consultation , the best trend which will be adviced by ur surgeon is to remove the gall bladder and the stones that it contain by laparascopy , its a simple procedure and requires less days of hospitalization and has less side effects than the old trends .
regarding the cause of gall bladder stones , it has many risk factors which suits u , ur age is still young but since u were pregnant and u gained weight and all those stuff might have contributed to the problem .
there is nthn to worry about , its a common problem and very easily treated .
if i were to advice u i would suggest that u avoid heavy and fatty meals , u may also consider avoiding alcohol to stay away of pain as much as possible until ur surgeon decides the best , good luck .
