Borat was ahead of its time.
Yes, I was surprised. Historically, though, widespread appreciation for comedians tends to lag behind dramatic artists. Think Charlie Chaplin and the new appreciation of his lifetime body of work after Robert Downey Jr. brought him back to American eyes in 1992 or the critics' claim of "comic genius" for Peter Sellers during the recent HBO biopic.
The revival of "The Producers" shed a new light on Mel Brooks' career, too. Edgy humor, and "Blazing Saddles" qualifies, has to age and mature before widespread audiences appreciate it.
"Borat" will be looked at as one of the great comedies in the years to come. Frankly, directed by Larry Charles, how could it not be?
You know, Larry. He's that guy who wrote for that NBC sitcom the masses didn't find funny either. In fact, "The Seinfeld Chronicles" (later just "Seinfeld") was offered to FOX, which declined to pick up the TV show.
I guess Larry is underappreciated, too.
How funny is that?

No but "That's nice." LOL!
I agree with their choices for the top ten; but I'm not sure if Citizen Kane deserves number one (perhaps number two). Maybe they're just trying to make up for the years of Hollywood snobbery that was directed towards Orson Welles when he was alive. It's a little too late now!
Cheers!! :)

No...but I'm always surprised that "Dr. Zhivago" never makes at least the top 20...the story, the music, the scenery, the history, the acting were all superb. My all time favorie movie.

No. I agree that Citizen Kane shouldn't have gotten number one. Casablanca should have gotten number 1.
