Dating , simply , is an extension or a replay of your childhood favorite game "Hide & seek" . As strangers you meet and if there is a spark you meet again only after making sure that you are sought and you seek..
Once the play is in progress you seek more , not just the companionship but a little more ... and a little more . And so is the other person. You both go towards your individual objectives as you keep dating and in many cases end up reaching the same endpoint.
I feel dating is an old name. Look fro someting that describes the game better.

Dating avoids being alone. We are a social species that is generally considered to fear rejection, abandonment and being alone.
Sadly, people end up in very unhealthy relationships through their fear of being alone. Better with someone abusive than to be alone -- or some similar type of reasoning.
The enjoyment of dating comes from not being alone.

Finding out about the opposite gender. Discovering what you do and do not want in a partner. Sometimes just the pleasure of someones company.
