BAJA?!? And I take it this is another Chinese clone of a Yamaha or Honda? Do yourself a favour.... Sell it and but a Japanese ATV. You get what you pay for!

STOP! It sounds like your starter has got a solenoid hung up. Follow your battery cable down to the starter from the positive pole, find the "top" ( or live side ) of the starter, and tap on the side of it lightly. Then try and reattach the battery cable. If it still trys to engage ( whirr ), stop and remove the solenoid. Be careful as those components often have plastic parts that can break..but they are made to be removed. If you are careful, you will be able to remove the solenoid, clean the contactor(s), and reassemble like new.

Good Luck!

The handlebar switch (start button) could be bad.
Unplug the switch.
If the continuous cranking noise goes away, then replace the handlebar switch.
If it doesn't go away, then the starter solenoid (the battery positive cable goes to it) is probably bad.
