I would like to see a project where the environmental impact of replacing gasoline with ethanol were fully and HONESTLY evaluated.
Consider all the byproducts from the burning of ethanol compared to gasoline. Factor in the energy output (energy verses gallons used) from each fuel. Reduction in fuel mileage.
Consider the energy used to produce the fuel.
Ethanol (made from corn) requires planting, fertilizing (petroleum is used in the production of fertilizers and tractors are used to plant, harvest, spread the fertilizers etc.) spreading pesticides, herbicides, etc. Then harvesting, trucking the corn to processing plants, processing methods, energy used to distill the ethanol, trucking the product to its final destination (it isn't shipped by pipeline), handling of the waste byproducts from production.
Does it really save us on use of petroleum? When considering the use of other energy to produce it, does it truly reduce pollution?
Then the government subsidizes ethanol production while they TAX gasoline.
Corn is FOOD. Using corn to produce ethanol pushes up the price of corn.
That increases the price of the corn we eat.Consider tacos, corn chips corn syrup, corn oil , pet food, animal feed. .
It pushes up the cost of beef, pork, chicken, milk.....
What IS the TRUE cost of ethanol?
You won't be popular when you finish THIS report!
But for the sake of HONESTY it needs to be done.

Actually I had the very same question a month ago and someone posted that I go out and look for Bin Laden or something. But anyhow, there are other similar questions here in Y!A, and I found some pretty good links. They gave me good ideas too, but I haven't started on my SIP yet. :D

Hope this helps! Let me know which ideas you pick and which works out.

BTW, just a wild guess, you could be a schoolmate of mine, coz I don't really hear the phrase SIP in many places.
