Not really, snail's back isn't flat just as slug's. Snail's body expands inside the shell. That's why you can't just take the shell away and leave the poor snail with no effort to pull it. As far as I know, the body part of a snail that's inside the shell is attached to the shell. I saw a pic of snail anatomy in a book long time ago, I might be mistaken.
Anyway, some slugs have shell as well. Check the wikipedia link below.
(and yes, they do have tentacles too)

That's a good way to describe a snail.Though snails and slugs look very different from one another, they're practically the same thing -- except that snails carry coiled shells on their backs, while slugs don't.

NO although they have the same nature the snail is called a molosc but a slug is not so noble.

They are related in the scientific classification. But, oddly enough, in German you say the slug is a naked snail.
