Last month, Radio Caracas Television (RCTV) was taken off the air after the government decided not to renew its license. The RCTV network had been on the air for 54 years, and boasted the country’s largest audience. Chávez accused the network of harming his "revolution" and repeatedly said it was aligned with the opposition. 66.9 per cent of respondents disagree with the decision to shut down RCTV.

In his weekly television appearance, Chávez dismissed the poll’s results saying, "This is all part of the conspirators’ plan. This is an attempt to incite (the students)."

whats your opinion?

Try to give you both sides of argument.....

Chavez and his supporters - In 2002 there was an uprising in Venezuela that resulted in the deaths of police officers and civilians alike. The RCTV actually encouraged viewers to go out and kill in order to overthrow the government. They also called for Chavez to be assassinated. They say that shutting down a news station that instigated civil unrest and calls for citizens to kill the head of state is justifyable. And that if an American news station called for citizens to riot and overthrow the government, resulting in multiple deaths would be shut down as well.

Anti-chavez people - You probably know this side of the argument. He is a dictator who is gaining totalitarian control by silencing all opposition. The news station was known for being critics of the president and his Bolivarian Revolution so they were silenced.

I personally don't know which side of the stroy is correct, i don't live in Venezuela. If the Chavez side is right and the news station really did call for Venezuealns to murder and overthrow their governement Chavez was justified in shutting them down. People tend to be a little close minded with anyone left wing. It's hard to get unbiased info on Chavez.

Hope that helped, man!
