The government keep many types of secrets from 'the people.'

Here are some examples:

Your social security number
How the stealth bomber evades radar

In order to provide a balance between the people's right to access government information and the governments responsibility to provide for the safety and privacy of the citizens we have laws that cover what types of information must be protected and what types must be released.

In addition Congress has the responsibility to provide oversight of the nations intelligence and military functions in order to ensure that the rules are followed.

On occasion yes, but this can at times be advantageous. For instance, I don't want them disclosing military secrets to the public or China will have them in a flash. Also, the CIA protects us, but we don't want to know what they are doing. Now they have become too politicized and public, thats why they didn't take out Osama when they had the chance.

This is a loaded question.

It is like asking if the sky is blue or is your heart beating?

Think about it, Roswell aliens, super advanced weapons, and engines that will get 150 miles per gallon.

I would assume so. However, being secrets and all, no one can say for sure.

I'm sure many of these are defense secrets, and releasing them to the media would make them available to enemies, as well as the general public.

Big, mass conspiracy secrets? No.
