I wanted to go fishing and this is what I had to do .
First was obtain a drivers license so I could tow a boat to the lake . To do this I needed to be examined and approved by the state .
Second I needed to register the boat I hand crafted myself and pay a tax on its value to receive a sticker that must be displayed on my boat registering it with the state.
The trailer needed to also have a tag as well as the car .
This is just part of it .
I needed to get a fishing license and this was easy enough to do but then they asked what kind of fish I would be trying to catch . Seems that some fish require extra stamps on my fishing license .
I wonder what happens if the wrong fish takes the bait . One I have no stamp for .
Anyhow a violation or failure to meet with any of these above mentioned items can land you in jail and at the very least an appearance in court and fines .
The coast guard can even take your boat if they want . SO tell me is this all a bit to much to go fishing .

By the way lets not blame one party or the other for this since they both have a hand in this mess of laws and regulations that can and often do result in people going to prison for failing to follow the laws and rules .

You need to move to Florida and fish off the piers. No liscense required.

Anyway it's not a party thing but lets reduce the power of the government in peoples lives. Less taxes, less government.

Tell you what, why don't you try living in a real police state, move to the Soviet Union, Cuba, the middle east, Mexico, etc..

The United States is the best country in the world. We have the most freedom of any people in the world. I travel the world on business and see and speak with many people and I know that we have it the best. Is it perfect? no, but it is the best.

Let's look at your complaints one by one.
1. Drivers license - It is to make sure that you know how to drive a car, the rules of the road and that you are of legal age.
2. Register the boat - make sure it is seaworthy, and that god forbid something were to happen to you and your boat was left floating in the water they could tell who the boat belonged to and begin a search or notify a loved one.
3. Fishing license - To make sure that you are not fishing for an endangered species and that you are only allowed to catch a certain number of fish depending in the type. This is to make sure that we do not over fish and kill off a species.
4. If you catch the wrong fish you just release it.
5. It is very doubtful you would land in jail unless you are fishing with dynamite. You would most likely get a warning or a small fine.

If you really feel that your freedom is that restricted you always have the FREEDOM to move to another country.

Gob Bless the United States

I think all that hassle you went through is because we have too many freedoms and EVERYONE seems to have a say in what's right and how things should work.

I think all the things you had to go through was total crap, but think about why.

You had to get a license for your boat because some stupid mother complained to the authorities about how they are not doing enough to protect little innocent retards after her kid drowned in a boat that was poorly designed.

The fact that you had to tell them what kind of fish you were trying to catch is completely retarded, but the people who are behind this are hippie tree huggers, who want to catalog every thing under the sun.

It sucks that you had to go through all that, but that is actually the result of too many opinions and free voices.

You have no idea what a police state is!
Go live under Saddam Hussein before we invaded, where if you said anything remotely negative about the government you were beat and shot in the head, often by the family member who reported you.

There need to be rules and regulations, if everyone fished like crazy then all the fish would be gone and no one could fish anymore.

A police state would have required you to go through checkpoints and show your papers.
The money you pay for a fishing license is used to maintain and stock the fisheries and also fund new public accesses.
If you catch the wrong fish, throw it back.
A police state would have rounded you up for this thread as "anti government propaganda" and given you a tenner under article 57.

Sorry to break it to you but the DMW is a private entity (which could be a good thing). Driving is a privledge, not a right. The fishing license is State law. Good point on possibly catching the wrong fish though. I had to do half of that to get my license here in AZ, man...it's just a fish, it's like the fish have more rights than we do! ;)

All in all, big government sucks, let's all work to take away some of its powers.

All labour do is make confident the poor proceed to be poor and uneducated so as that they are in a position to trick them into nonetheless balloting for his or her pretend labour area with some patronising drivel, the latest being a promise to "develop" the nmw to £8 with the aid of 2020, while only with the known develop each October on my own it would be only over £8 besides. The labour social gathering could be prosecuted for deceiving and abusing the poor.

No doubt as the population grows the freedoms of yesterday decrease. Safety issues because of masses and traffic flows that didn't exist just ten years ago become modern day problems. What one called freedom yesterday has been taken by over population, bound to happen.

That's why I hate fishing. I lived by the river when I was a child and fished all summer for free and loved it. Now I hate all the rules so I don't go. My fishing gear has been outdated for about 20 years.

it was our people who said that should be there so i guess everyone is to blame..
don't get me wrong i see your point you have all of theses obsticals to go Fishing of all things someting that can profide food!
and you have to jump jump jump over everything!
what about the places that won't let you fish.
we have the freedom to say I'm going fishing today! some people can't leave their house to go food shopping. so we have freedom but there are guidlines and rules just like everything else but in the US they ease up on most of them!

I mean i don't need my husbands premission to get my hair cut!
I can marry who i want!

i use to be all on the usa isn't free then i did research on other culturse and their laws!
we don't have it as bad as we think
we are just spoiled little brats who think because there is something we have to do to accquire somethign we want isn't free! at least we have that option!
