Racism, intolerance, prejudice, social inequality, housing, bigotry... quite a long list, in any society

Do you remember the media reaction to hurricane Katrina hitting Louisiana? Well that opened a hidden wound in America - displaying the inequalities of whole sections of the community to the world. There is a lot of things that still remain unresolved.

As someone has already mentioned, get a decent quality newspaper and read the comments, editorials and letters page sections.

That should give you something to think about

People who feel like the only thing that matters is what they
want and to hell with what is good for the others around
them or what is good for their country. While Jons answer
may be a little harsh I agree with most of his statements.
We as americans are not owed anything except the right to
work hard and help ourselves. As long as people expect
the government to bail them out everytime something bad
happens they are inviting the government to stick it's nose
in their personal affairs. Which goes against the ENTIRE
grain of our constitution. So in my opinion; if you think it is
the governments job to take care of you, you are not a very
educated or responsible person. These people seem to
feel as if the govt. is a separate entity with an endless
supply of money so that all they have to do is open their
mouths and they will be fed. They don't seem to understand
that their friends, neighbors, aunts, uncles, cousins and
their fellow countrymen are the ones footing the bill. I
don't mind and even like to give a helping hand where I
can but not when they feel that I owe it to them and don't
show any signs of wanting to help themselves. So, I feel
that people who expect others to do for them what they
should be doing for themselves is societies biggest and
most prevalent problem.

lets talk about the katrina thing. before the wind could even die down, people were ranting and raving about why the government hasnt come and gotten them out, given them a house, and cooked their supper yet. and there they were standing on two good legs, waiving two good arms, and seeing with two good eyes. some people expect the government (you and me, the tax payers) to provide their every need from craddle to grave. not everyone hit by katrina were like that, only New Orleans, the Mississppians cleaned up their own messes and eventually took care of themselves. New Orleans should have been given back to the aligators. our main social problem in this country is extream lazyness and the idea of "the right to health care". NEWS FLASH- people have a right to health care if they can afford it. i have to buy my own insurance and its not very good, thats why i dont jump up and run to the doctor everytime i get the sniffles and the same goes for my kids. dont look at me and tell me that just because you dont have a job that provides insurance that i have to pay for your health care. americans need to start being responcible for themselves.
