We, my husband and I, do not. We can give opinions to eachother, but ultimately if either of us wanted to dye our skin purple and go naked, we have that no matter what the opinion of the other is. You've got to let your partner be his or herself in the marriage! Agree or disagree?

I think everyone makes their own choices, in a marriage it's up to the other person to decide if he/she finds the other's choices acceptable. I for one would not tell my husband how to dress but he does look for suggestions a lot which means to me he cares about my opinion.

If my husband chose to dye his skin purple and go naked he'd probably be single fast LOL but again it's his choice.

Wait maybe I'd better not post this or he'll figure out how to be rid of me FAST!

Disagree. You are a married couple and have influence upon one another. If I don't want him to wear a certain shirt because it doesn't make him look his best, or is inappropriate, I tell him so. He also knows what is better on me and for me -- that's just how it is after you've been married and close a long time. You live in one another's pockets. Similarly, he wouldn't want me to dress provocatively outside the home, and he has every right to say that, and I would respect that. NONE of this takes away from our individuality, not at all....

I agree. My husband and I have never dictated what the other should wear. We may offer an opinion if it is asked, but ultimately it's up to the individual wearing the clothes to decide.
(although neither of us has ever expressed a desire to dye our skin purple and go out naked - lol)

I think that a spouse does have a right to a certain degree, but only when the clothes are disrespectful to the marriage...meaning that if a wife wears something that exposes her goods to the rest of the world, yes, the husband has a right to ask her not to wear those kinds of clothes. It goes the other way as well.

Its a subject coming when the partners are emotionally very close. I always insist my wife to wear some particular dress when we are going out and all. So as she also do. Saying and accepting is a matter of intimacy. Don't take it in an egoistic manner

To an extent a spouse has the right to say what is appropriate or not. Expressing your individuality is wonderful, but to what extent? If we are going to a formal corporate party (black tie), how appropriate is it that I wear hooker boots and a micro mini skirt and a lace halter?

In the end we still have to be seen with each other, and if one half of us alienates the other with their choices in fashion then what kind of partnership is that? What type of loving and respectful spouse goes out of their way to express their individuality to the exclusion of their spouse's feelings?

Agree, but sometimes it depends on the culture. If you are in a country that you have to be dressed in a certain way and he told you to do so in order not to be critisized or get hurt, you have to follow his opinion. Eventually, he would want what is good for you.

No way, but you arent going to let your girlfriend/spouse out looking bad, you want them to look good and not to embarrass yourself or themselves. Painting your skin purple and walking around naked, depends on what kind of life you lead i guess!

Disagree. My husband is a direct representation of myself. I wouldn't let him step a foot out of the door with me, if I felt that he was dressed in a manner that I didn't approve of. Don't get me wrong, I don't tell him what to where, but if he lets say tryed to wear a " clown suit" out to dinner one night, that's not happening!!!!!!!

we do make suggestion or if we want to see each other in a certain outfit we ask to wear it. But definitely have a say if one of us wants to dye themselves purple or run around naked.
