Today will have more daylight minutes than any other day of the year. Following today, the number of daylight minutes will diminish until December 22, the next solstice. Then the daylight minutes will increase until June 20, 2008, the subsequent solstice.

But the days will keep being 86,400 seconds long - each and every one. They're just a bit darker, especially the further away you are from the equator.

And thanks for reminding me that today was the June solstice! I had completely forgotten!

This is the day when the sun is out the longest, but each day is the same amount of time. The sun will not be out as long as it is today for another year.

It might be the Summer Solstice where you are but it's the Winter Solstice here in Australia and the rest of the Southern Hemisphere.
We'll have more minutes of daylight, each day from now on, until summer is here again.

Yes the days will slowly get shorter, but you probably wont notice until the daylight savings time change in october.

it could mean that every other day is the same as today, therefore today is the longest but also the shortest.

well, no. its just that THIS is the day when the sunlight stays longest. we have more of DAY on 21st june than any other day.
