The truth, but tactfully. You pick out beautiful things about them (nice teeth, nice hair, etc...) and say, "I think everybody has beautiful qualities about them. For instance, you have awesome hair/smile/... Beauty is a really subjective thing, so I don't know how to answer you."

If you are a true friend, you will know when to tell the straight truth and when to temper justice with mercy. If someone is unattractive and it's genetic, there isn't much you can do. If they are overweight, talk to them about exercise and diet. Join them for the exercise. If they need to get their hair done or get a new wardrobe, then gently suggest a makeover and buy them a blouse or shirt that would flatter them. Don't lie. Once someone discovers a lie, things won't ever be the same. Tell the truth either directly or indirectly. You know your friend better than we do.

Lies are acceptable if it can please someone. But once said you should never change. Lies are not acceptable if that benefits you. Truth is always acceptable. But you are not to say the truth all the time. You can hide a truth for the benefit of others. Mind you then you are not telling lies. ( I do Not know)

I would never tell someone they are ugly.... beauty is inside the person, you like someone for who they are not what they look like. looks fade but the heart never does and if a friend asked you that just simply state you are beautiful to me!

People should be frank with their friends to a limit where they cannot destroy them.

I`d tell the truth if it was my good friend, but I would also offer suggestions on how they can improve their appearance. They wouldn`t ask if they didn`t want to hear the answer.

hmm, thats a tricky question. On one side you want to help your friend feel better, on the other if you can't speak non PC to your friends then who can you? maybe this particular topic would require a little finese... maybe point out thier good traits instead.

you should tell the truth in most situations but not if it will hurt thier feelings. you should just imagine it was you who asked the question and what you'd like to hear xox
