I expect that the overall tourist visits to Hong Kong in 2007 were in the 30 million range but these are the most recent figures available.
The total tourism expenditure associated to inbound tourism reached HK$117.3 billion in 2006. Overall vistor arrivals to Hong Kong in 2006 increased by 8.1% to 25.25 million, which was lower than what the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) had expected. The HKTB had initial expectations of 27 million visitor arrivals. Visitor arrivals from Mainland China exceeded 13.5 million. Arrivals in December 2006 exceeded 2.4 million, setting an outright record for a single month.
Along with the strong growth in the number of Mainland visitors, most other long and short-haul markets are also performing healthily with double-digit growth over 2006. Among long-haul markets, Europe, Africa and the Middle East took the lead with arrivals of 1,916,861, an 11.1% increase that made this Hong Kong's best-performing market region in 2006.
While facing increasing competition from Mainland cities and Macau, The Hong Kong Tourism Board work closely with authorities and trade to make Hong Kong an essential component in all combo and multi-destination itineraries.

diverse Hongkongers nonetheless carry to the days being a member of the colony and long after the handover in 1997, they nonetheless think of they're chiefly different chinese language. a number of them even deny being chinese language yet see the stupid concept of "Hongkongers" as a separate race / nationality, and whilst asked, they say they're Hongkong chinese language with an emphasis on the observe "Hongkong"! certainly, many westerners basically do no longer care, some westerners do no longer even understand a thank you to stated "Hongkongers"! very akin to ways i do no longer care no count number if a German is from the former East Germany or the former West Germany. If there is every person who extremely cares, that is basically a number of those chinese language residing interior the former colony. i'm a chinese language born and stay in Hong Kong and artwork with westerners. I certainly have under no circumstances met a westerner who intentionally tries to differentiate between an islandic chinese language and mainland chinese language like it extremely concerns. To them, we are all chinese language. very akin to ways we don't care no count number if an american is from Texas or Alaska. that's the stupid yearn to be above something (like interior the colonial days) that activates some Hongkong chinese language to objective so annoying to differentiate themselves from the the rest a million.3 billion chinese language and to make a international-extensive proclamation that they do no longer seem to be from the north. If a westerner asks me the place i'm from, i might say China, no longer Hongkong. i might say i'm a chinese language, devoid of the stupid prefix of Hongkong. If he thinks all chinese language are communists, i might tell him no longer all human beings love waging wars in remote places countries. If he thinks chinese language are backward, uncivilized and uneducated, i visit coach him in any different case with my deeds, no longer a self-serving label of "Hongkong chinese language". If he's interested in stereotypes extra advantageous than attending to appreciate me, i might basically desire him success interior the recent century and maximum of all, I shall no longer attempt to augment his stereotype with the help of cladding myself in a "Hongkong chinese language" disclaimer.
