There's a good trick for checking how a steak is cooked. put your thumb and little finger of one hand together and press the ball under the thumb, this is the texture you are looking for in a rare steak, then do the ring finger this is medium rare, middle finger is medium and your index finger is well done!

Even if she likes it well done...dont grill it to death, as it will end up like a bit of leather!
Its really simple to cook - if you have a griddle pan that would be best, if not a frying pan will be fine.
Oil the steak rather than the pan (particularly important if you are using a griddle pan) and heat the pan up to quite hot before you put the steak in. Just after adding the steak, turn the heat down to medium, so the outside doesnt burn and cook on each side for up to about 5 mins (depending on the thickness). You can use a simple trick to determine whether or not the steak is done enough, by pressing it to see how soft it is., and comparing it to pressing the ball of your hand. This link shows you how it works!

As for what to serve it with, I think simplicity is important with a steak - some perfectly boiled new potatoes, a salad, and perhaps another vegetable, and also of course some mustard!

As far as cooking steak, you can usually tell by the consistency. It also depends of the thickness of the steak. You may want to invest in a meat thermometer, that can help. Remember that after you take the steak off it continues to cook. You should let it rest for about 15 mins before serving so all the juices will seal back in.
I think fresh asparagus steamed and then seasoned with some olive oil, fresh garlic, lemon juice and salt and pepper makes a very nice side.

For starters people who say they like there steaks "well done" have rarely ever tried anything other than that... So what ever you do... Don't grill it to death...
A good way to know which is which, i.e. well done or rare is to hold you left hand relaxed, touch the tip of your thumb with the tip of your index finger and press the meaty bit of your palm, near the thumb with your right index finger. Thats what blue (barely cooked) should feel like. If you change to your middle finger, thats rare. The next finger is medium and the little finger is well done...
As for a sauce, I stand by the Schwartz pepper steak sauce... Absolutely gorgeous! No point in makin one if you can find a decent packaged one... Will allow you to focus more on cooking the steak.
Hope that helps...
P.s. Allow for extra cooking after you turn the heat of as the pan will still be hot if you get what I mean...

this is the best and easiest recipe for steaks u must try this...it is tried and approved by me
INGREDIENTS:-
1/4 cup olive oil
1 1/2 lbs beef round steak, cut into thin strips
1 1/4 teaspoons salt
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 large onion, thinly sliced
2 green peppers, cut into thin strips
6 garlic cloves, minced
6 tablespoons tomato paste
1 (35 ounce) can Italian plum tomatoes, crushed with your hands, with their juice
1 1/2 cups water
1 bay leaf
1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
1 cup ditalini (optional)
2 tablespoons minced fresh parsley leaves
METHOD:-
1. In a Dutch oven or heavy skillet heat the olive oil over high heat. Season the beef with 1/2 teaspoon of the salt and the black pepper. Saute the beef, in batches if necessary so that the pan is not crowded, until well-browned on all sides, about 4 minutes. Transfer the beef to a plate and set aside.
2. Add the onion and green peppers to the skillet and cook, stirring frequently, until softened and caramelized around the edges, about 6 minutes. Add the garlic and cook for 1 minute.
3. Add the tomato paste and cook for 2 minutes, stirring constantly. Add the tomatoes, water, bay leaf, crushed red pepper and remaining 3/4 teaspoon salt.
4. Return the beef to the pan and bring the sauce to a boil. Reduce the heat to medium-low and cook, partially covered, for 1 1/2 hours or until the meat is very tender.
5. Add the ditalini to the gravy and cook until tender, about 25 minutes. Add the parsley. Serve immediately.

Put the steak into a hot pan and let cook 8 to 10 minutes on both sides. It'll be very well done. Once out of the pan and on the plate drizzle some olive oli on and salt & pepper to taste. Side of steamed carrots and brussel sprouts.

Put the steak on the grill, apply some olive oil on the charcoal till the fire smokes, invite her to see it,then get her away from the grill and later serve her steak that you had previously purchased from the store.
Advantage: You've got her hook and line.
Sinker: You'll have to do it over n over again.

Depends how you are planning to cook it really.
Under the grill is best - if she wants hers well done, it needs to be quite browned on the outside, and show no trace of blood inside - just slit it with a knife in the centre to see if there's any there and if there is, pop it back under for a couple of minutes.
If you fry it, same pretty much applies.
Tis warm today so how about a nice crispy salad, french bread and butter - simple food but great to eat.
