i've used vista in work but can't wait to get home and back on to my xp system.
vista was hailed as the next best thing, but i to am disappointed with it.
you could up the virtual memory and try turning off some of the eye candy. this should help speed it up but to be really honest i would recommend you put winxp back on!

There may be tweaks out there to help with Vista speeds to some small degree, but be careful - if you don't know about computers don't attempt tweaks. Vista is known to be slow especially on systems that do not have enough RAM. I had a buddy that had Vista go so slow it just would not run because he didn't have enough RAM. He ended up buying XP and installing it instead.

Vista is a radically new system that has been introduced far too soon. There are lots of teething problems and it will take up to a year for some of the problems to be resolved I have decided to stay with XP for the time being. Will look at Vista again next year .t

I know what you are going through. It's a shame that Microsoft came out with a system that they say requires 1 set
of specs, and when you buy it, you find out that it requires much more to run smoothly. I would suggest you re-install Windows XP or Ubuntu (the Linux system which is free and will run with no problems on your computer).
I thought computer prices would come down when Vista arrived because the computer manufactures would want to get rid of the XP versions. However, the prices went UP because XP is no longer available from most manufactures and you need much more RAM and other features to run Vista. It looks like Microsoft got over on a lot of people.

Your problems don't seem to have anything to do with Vista. "Centering text on a page" is presumably something you do in Word. Both Word and Outlook are part of Microsoft Office, not Vista itself.
Vista is the underlying operating system, that makes windows appear on the screen, manages files, allows you to configure your system, and so on.

You could always buy a copy of Windows XP (it's cheaper now Vista's out) and put that on instead. You'll find it runs really quick on a machine designed for Vista and it's more compatible and will be easier for you to use as you're used to it. Remember to save any work or anything you want to keep before formatting it.

OUCH!!! The news gets worse about Vista. I live in the UK and I've heard a lot of bad things about it. I sympathise with any one who wants to buy a new laptop. In one of our local shops I managed to buy the last laptop with XP. The sales assistant tells me that all XP's are out of sales and only Vista's will be on sale.

Whats Vista got to do with Outlook 7/centering text? That's office 2007. I use it no problem, speed find, as long as you have at least 2Gb memory.
If you want to speed up turn of Aero.

I'm also disappointed, I keep encountering little bugs, and it's such a resource hog.
Might be worth waiting until SP1, though I doubt much will change.
