Why do you think it has to do with religion? It's culture, pure screwed up woman hating culture. They take their cultural traditions, mix in a few things from Islam, and label the whole thing Islam. Want proof? Ok, fine, look at how on the victim's word the man is stoned to death.

Now I know I'm going to get "why is he stoned to death on her word" or "why does she need to be forgiven?"

Funny. It seems like no matter what anything says, you're never happy. You just want to find something to hate and fight about. How about getting some maturity and respecting differences while getting along?

"During the time of the Prophet (saw) punishment was inflicted on the rapist on the solitary evidence of the woman who was raped by him. Wa'il ibn Hujr reports of an incident when a woman was raped. Later, when some people came by, she identified and accused the man of raping her. They seized him and brought him to Allah's messenger, who said to the woman,

"Go away, for Allâh has forgiven you," but of the man who had raped her, he said, "Stone him to death." (Tirmidhi and Abu Dawud)"

Dear there is no such thing called honor killing in Islam. Arab pagans used to kill if the new born baby turns to be female. Allah has prohibited that in the following verses of Quran. Please read from verse 1 to 9 in the here after (Qiyama) it will be asked why they were killed and those who have done that will be taken to hell unless they have repented and get the mercy of Allah

1 When the sun (with its spacious light) is folded up
2 When the stars fall losing their luster
3 When the mountains vanish (like a mirage
4 When the she-camels ten months with young are left untended
5 When the wild beasts are herded together (in human habitations
6 When the oceans boil over with a swell
7 When the souls are sorted out (Being joined like with like
8 When the female (infant) Buried alive is questioned
9 For what crime she was killed

The problem these days that Muslim countries do not use Islamic laws (shariáh) as government laws. That's why we see a lot of honor killing. But didn't you notice that most of these killings happen in Bedouin Countries (like Iraq, Syria, Jordan .... etc). These people live by the Shariáh, but their countries dont. And they think it is ok to kill their daughters for what they call honor. They do not know that this is wrong and that Allah will punish them for that. How can a man kill his own daughter anyway? These people do not understand Islam 100%, they are still confuzed. Many people need to read the Quraan more often and with open hearts, this is when you will differentiate between right & wrong.

Honor killing was never part of Islam. In fact, I read somewhere that it was actually a part of the customs of the jews and Chrisitans of Egypt. It is from there that the custom seeped into Islam and is now out there in places like Middle East, Pakistan, Iran, Iraq, etc. etc.

But never mind all that. The fact which needs to be going out among the Muslim and Non-Muslim communities is that honor killing is in fact HARAAM as the woman who was killed had not sinned in anyway.

Muslimah,

I think the point is that even if you disagree with honor killing, there is the matter of people being punished severely in the Islamic state for commission of consensual sexual acts outside of the bonds of marriage. Most of us would find that sort of thing to be inhuman, inhumane, and sick, and that is part and parcel of Islam. It may not be instituted in most "Muslim" countries, but in those countries where some form of Shariah is the norm, you do find it without exception.

It's one thing to say that premarital sex is wrong. It's quite another to advocate whipping a person on that basis. It's especially disquieting for a religion that has pretensions of being the future Universal Religion of God(TM). At some point, we aren't just being nitpicky. We're honestly evaluating the ethics of a religion that is rapidly spreading, and some of us are giving it an honest no.

I agree that we ought to be better educated, and so I appreciate some of your questions, but respecting differences can only go so far. Once the stones start flying and the lash comes out, I'm done.

In the situation you're describing, a grave miscarriage of justice was committed. One person's testimony should never end someone's life. What this hadith describes is an honor killing - in this case, the Muslim community was angry because it couldn't "protect one of its women" and so it focused all of its anger on this one guy. I hope for his own sake that Muhammad was infallible, because if he was wrong, he and his community have innocent blood on their hands.

Allahu `alim,

Lazarus

No, it isn't part of Islam. It's part of culture in some countries, several of which are predominantly Muslim. The real question is, why hasn't anything been done about it by those governments?

No honor killings are not Islamic and have no place in Islam. They are cutural and are done by people who have no idea what Islam is or what honor is. Assalaamualaykum.

I've said it before, I'll say it again, cultural or not, until all the Imams come out and publicly state that it is wrong, that it is evil, that it is never deserved, that it is against Islam, the West will always associate it with Muslims. Hey, I'll even settle for some of the Imams. How about ANY of the Imams ? I will never respect any culture or religion that does not condemn stoning.
