* because they are a young nation and they never faced great military nations only.

France is certainly the nation which gained the most battles in the history, in fact also the country made the most wars in the history.
In 2000 years of continual wars there are only 2 wars which it really missed that by 1870 and the second world war.

On the other hand I concede that there was overall a decline of the French weapons since 1870

I'd really question france being first in your list for a couple of reasons:

In both world wars, France surrendered to Germany and then needed British support to regain their freedom, when they could have stood and fought

Agincourt British longbowmen heavily outnumbered by the French, kicked French butts

Trafalgar, this time Brits kicked French butt on sea,

Waterloo, French butt was kicked by the British

Only once was Britain invaded and kicked in the butt by the French nearly a thousand years ago.

As for who is most glorious*? Who realy cares? We should remember the dead, and be greatfull for our freedom

I agree that the British might be number 1, but the French did not surrender in World War One. They lost an entire generation fighting in the trenches, but never surrendered.
