I look around on this site and see some people criticising Christianity as a mere fable or delusion. These people say we'd be a lot better off without it and even times call Christians "sheep" and talk as if "believers" are idiots.

There's nothing that can disprove God. So why does this keep happening? Why do the atheists and others do what they do?

Wow, these are all good answers! But why can't some of you at least answer in a gentler way?

Please understand people I didn't come here to pick a fight or be insulted. Half of these answers are all barbaric or militant! I'm not "ignorant" or "stupid" for asking a simple question! Cheese and Rice cut a guy who believes in God some slack! I weighed all of the evidence against Gosd and it just didn't make sense to me. Plus I've had some seriously disturbing as well as enlightening experiences that forged my belief in God. Am I sitting here and calling you and idiot for not believing? I think my question sounded kind of neutral to me! Just a simple answer is all I wanted, not my butt drug through the flames.

That being said I'm not angry at anyone. After all, flip the coin and the Christians would be doing the same thing to me if I were an atheist right?

Psh. Aww well.

They call it a fable or delusion because it poses restrictions on their lives and lifestyle that they do not want to follow. Reject the concept of God, and you need not follow His commandments. They then reinforce their mindset by ridiculing those that do believe in God.

They keep saying that the Bible is full of errors, yet they cannot provide proof. They say that God doesn't exist, because they cannot see Him.

Yet they themselves cannot deny the incredible order of the universe, ranging from the macrocosmic to the sub-atomic, order that came from the ultimate form of chaos, namely the Big Bang. And as any physicist and philosopher can tell you, order does not come from chaos. Can a hurricane build a house? Can a tornado assemble a car from parts?

Now, a theoretical question for atheists: if the Christians are wrong and there is no God, if death is the "final curtain", we haven't really lost anything, as the Christian lifestyle isn't that restrictive.

But if we are right, and there is a God before whom you will stand at your Judgment, and if Hell and the Lake of Fire are real, what have YOU lost?

There is more evidence out there to disprove God, while minimal evidence to "prove" that God exists.
Scientists have proven the Big Bang theory as how the world was created - our galaxy at least.
Darwin's theory of evolution has been shown time & time again to be right. The amount of evidence that humans have evolved from Apes is more conclusive than "we were created by a being higher than humans that no one can prove exists".
We do what we do cause we have more evidence and proof to believe what we believe than Christians do to believe what they do.
Richard Dawkins, one of the worlds most intelligent men - placed in the top 3 in the world has written a book called "The God Delusion" maybe Christians should try reading it.

You hit the nail on the head by saying

"There's nothing that can disprove God"

so now flip the coin and read what's on the other side.

The population of the World stands at approximately 6 billion 602 million people, of which, there are 35% belonging to the Christian Faith, many of whom just say they are Christians but don't practice the religion..

Mull over the following statistics of the breakdown:

Christians 33.03% (of which Roman Catholics 17.33%, Protestants 5.8%, Orthodox 3.42%, Anglicans 1.23%), Muslims 20.12%, Hindus 13.34%, Buddhists 5.89%, Sikhs 0.39%, Jews 0.23%, other religions 12.61%, non-religious 12.03%, atheists 2.36%

By what right of superiority do you or any Christian, for that matter, have the audacity to proclaim that you and only you have found the LIGHT when, by your own admission, you say the things that you do with that certain tinge of disdain?

And why single out just atheists? Have you ever sat down with and listened to the incontrovertible facts which some of them might offer? Or do you smugly dismiss the fact that millions of people have been slain in the name of the Lord? Will you deny that entire civilizations and nations have been taken over by the sword in the Name of God?

Or that the same God of the Holy Bible committed Genocide?
Demanded sacrifice? Demanded worship?

Please understand that I'm just giving you things to ponder about the question you asked and the arrogance of one religion holding itself as the "only" as substantiated by where Christianity stands in the schematics of the entire World population.

Nor do I challenge your right to believe as you do but raise the points just to give you pause for introspection.

Let me see ..... can you dismiss the Toothfairy as a fable or a delusion? If you can, use the same prove to disprove Christianity. If you can't then why do you dismiss the Toothfairy as your new personal god? Ok. With that done, can you dismiss the next 50,000 gods in line as a fable or a delusion? if .... bla bla bla .....

Now what do you think?

---------

Gentler way? Perhaps you can show me a method of put this fore in a more gentle way. It is human nature to think those who oppose their own idea are being rude, no matter how "gentle" that person seems to sound.

There is no evidence for the existence of any gods. You could say absence of proof is not proof of absence but then that would make every god (and the Flying Spaghetti Monster) a truth. And you're contributing some mighty good evidence for the delusional part.

there's nothing that can prove it either. We believe that God doesn't exist. You can't prove that because you can't prove a negative. That's like saying "you can't prove Santa Claus doesn't exist, therefore he does". It doesn't work like that. You're the ones with the burden of proof. And so far I haven't heard a single shred of evidence to make me think there is a possibility that God does exist. You can ask someone why they believe in God and they can't give a single reason that doesn't boil down to "just cuz"

There's nothing that can disprove the existence of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, Zeus, Mithras, Apollo, etc.

The burden of proof is on the one who makes the claim that something exists. Obviously you have none, or you wouldn't need faith.

I'm agnostic but I still qualify due to an open mind.

Some atheists dismiss Christianity as a fable just as some Christians dismiss atheists as delusional.

Think about it dude

Christianity, like all other religions, is a farce, a myth, a fable, and is completely MAN made! If you have blind faith in something with absolutely no proof of it's existence except for the fact that someone tells you to believe it or you will go to hell then of course you're gonna be called sheep!

Not just atheists see the errors and contradictions in the bible and your religion. Christians see it too and that is why they split up into thousands of different groups and argue endlessly over who is right. The Spirit of truth has shown me what is wrong with the bible and how to fix it. Get real, christians are not one big happy jesus loving, following family.
