Yes, there is such a thing. It's a nighmarish experience while still being awake. (I just learned that myself) A bad dream that takes place while you're sleeping in the daytime is still called a nightmare, or simply, bad dream.

You might be speaking of a "flashback". The full sight-sound-emotion-and physical reaction to something that happened a long time before, that was very upsetting, and likely violent.
It can be common to sufferers of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

When someone is suffereing from depression it is common to have occasional day terrors. They would be bad dreams about someone getting hurt of killed usually. Paranoia and fear being the main motivations, and common feelings that accompany depression. You may want to consider talking to a friend, family member, or counselor about the dream(s) if you have had them and can remember anything about them.

Yes, a few. I'd suddenly drift into fearful thought of bad situations. It's not fun at all.

never knew there was a name for it... but yes.. I have them quite frequently. I attribute them to the psychotic features of my depression...
they can be quite unnerving, especially if you are around other people when they happen....
