While it wasn't a formal declaration of war (nobody does those anymore since "war" is technically against international law), Congress did pass an authorization for the use of force against Al Quaeda and the Taliban. We did attack them in Afghanistan. Since no other group has been directly connected to the 9/11 attack other than Al Quaeda, whom would you suggest that we should have also attacked.

I'm assuming that your young and barely remember 9-11. Not long after the attacks, the U.S. went to war against Afghanistan in retribution for the attacks on 9-11. It's all in the history books.

We're fighting terrorists worldwide. Do you not see the news or read the papers?
Who are we to "declare war" against? Terrorists are not a soverign country, but cells of thugs, an organization. It does not take a Congressional war declaration act to go against terrorists. If it was a country, then more than likely an act of war would be declared.

Shock and Awe? 4 years in Iraq? (Not a war, well only for the first 90 days.. and then mission acomplished.. hmm) Afghanistan? I think that is pretty revengeful. There was really no one to declare war on. The people who did it died. We made them famous forever in history. They didn't want to declare war because that would make them have to follow the rules of war.
President:
Go into that neighbourhood and kill all the terrorists.
Soldier:
Which ones are they?
President:
I don't know, but hurry up.

technically we are not war. there is not group/country to actually fight. these terrorist organizations are divided and disorganized, and a so-called "war on terrorism" is basically American soldiers in middle eastern countries killing any muslim who may look like or be suspected of being part of one of the millions of terrorist organizations. really fair, right? war in iraq was to get saddam and his associates out, so technically our presence in iraq is a waste b/c 1) they don't want us there and 2) America is acting like it did in vietnam, which we all know didn't end well, for anyone.

We did, just with people that had nothing to do with it: Iraq!
Nato has troops in Afghanistan which include about 10,000 of ours! About 13,000 are under US only control!
