Of course, the obvious answer would be to suggest that they are vestigial structures more useful to heribore ancestors with larger jaws... But, assuming creationism, is why would this be done?... Is God just a sadistic bastard who wants to see all humans suffer?...

Interesting question..
I think they are just leftovers from evolution. Like tonsils and appendix. No real purpose anymore but evolution hasn't eliminated them in the species yet..
I had two full sets of wisdom teeth come in (8 in total) over 3 years.. Had the first set pulled when I was 16... Had the second set pulled when I was 18..
For years I jokingly told my sister that I was just much wiser than her because she never got her wisdom teeth at all LOL...

Sorry, I don't believe in creationism, so I can't believe god gave us anything. We are just born the way we are, it is that we have evolved over the years. But as to why we have wisdom teeth, that is a good question, they don't seem to do much. Most people seem to have problems with them. I guess in the long run I've been pretty lucky, only one tooth has had to come out, but that was one hell of a problem. They had to break my jaw to get the tooth out as the root had grown around jaw and the tooth was totally rotten. I still have pain in that one spot and we are talking about 30 years ago. I don't feel like I got any wisdom from my teeth.

Jerry Bergman had an article in Technical Journal 12(3): 297-304, 1998. He points out that the change to a soft western diet was a major factor in the problem.
But the fact is, many people do NOT have to lose their wisdom teeth. My dentist and orthodontist both told me to have them removed or they would cause lots of problems. I decided to keep the money I would have paid them, and let the wisdom teeth grow in. And guess what, they work great and didn't crowd my teeth a bit (that was many years ago); I'm happy to have four extra teeth for chewing.
The evolution inspired tendency to routinely remove wisdom teeth, even when they often produce no problems (like the
appendix and tonsils), is silly.

Assuming creationism, yes, God wants us to suffer. After all, suffering roots out the weak. Case in point, if not for the price of millions of people suffering agonizing deaths from disease and infection, we wouldn't have developed this fantastic immune system that protects us. The best way to toughen up your knuckles is to punch a tree a few million times, which of course hurts like hell.
Suffering rules.

the lesson of the ant: to be as one with the community, and to know your place in it.
The lesson of the tree: sleep, perchance to die as winter comes and winter goes.
The lesson of the wisdom tooth: so that the gates of your mouth are taken seriously. What comes out of the mouth is much more hurtful than any part of the mouth.
OK. I just made that up. Your guess is as good as mine. I've never had a problem with my wisdom teeth. I still have em.

Because back in the stone ages and olden days, they were needed. People didn't take care of their teeth and they would loose them. The wisdom teeth replaced some of the teeth that had fallen out.

God did not give us wisdom teeth to test our faith. Thats the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. Did he give us an apendix to test our faith too?

I think God just accidently got things a little wrong. You know how there's always something you forget.
(Ow, hurry up waiting list, I want my teeth out now!) (Yes, they are hurting!!!)

He loves you so much He's willing to ignore your rude remarks? wow...hope you come around soon...He has known you since before your time began...read Psalm 139 - and get a clue. before it's too late.
