For me It is when I feel either a restraining or compelling force..
by this I mean when I am upset by someone or something and I feel a restraining force telling me to hold my tongue or say something kind in place of what I might have thought to say... that is the "voice" of God working in me.
Then there is the compelling force of God's "voice" that urges you to do something or say something you don't normally do or might feel uncomfortable doing. Like someone else said giving to a charity or even just saying hello with a smile..giving money to a stranger or saying a kind word to a loved one.
It is when you are walking with God on a daily basis that you can really start to live by going along with the compelling and restraining force of God's Love.

Well I actually came across a little poem based on a true experience...I dont remember where I found it and so i cant give the whole thing but it made me cry because it is so true. I remember it was about a man praying outside...and he would say "God, if you are listening to me, can u please touch me?" and he would be expecting a real touch on the cheek...but instead the winds outside would start to blow...and the man would be frustrated..because he didnt notice the wind as a sign. And then he would say "God, if you can hear me will you speak to me?" and a bird perched on a branch would begin to sing...and then again he wouldnt notice it. and then again he says.."God, if you even exist will u show yourself?" and then a butterfly flew in front of him and landed on his shoulder. and then he started to cry because he realized that God was all around him and always there.
I really wish I could find this "poem" again..it was very touching.
So I think that God has his own way of communicating with us..we just have to be aware of it.

God speaks to us, this is how I know...
There came a time when God had to make a long trip, long and far away even for God. But he told us not to worry, each day he would say something to us. Then He started his journey and each day we paused and listened to Him. After awhile, the distance was so great His voice became harder to hear, but we still paused and listened. Then, it finally happened. The long voyage was so long and took God so far away we could no longer hear Him...
We are still listening, and this is how I know: No matter how loud we get, and no matter how many of us in a room...there will come a time when everyone will pause and be quiet at the same time. Think about it, we have all experienced this. We are still listening, and someday we will hear him again. What a joy it will be!

Experienced everything, everywhere, everywhen, simultaneously, for a period of four or more hours, and according to one witness I was no longer at the site of the event. No message, no mission, no sense of being "chosen" or "better" or "a guru/teacher/messiah/etc."
I certainly DON'T expect this to serve as proof. It was proof for me. It is not logical/scientific proof for someone else, of course. No one owes me "belief".
Did change my life. Strange to know God exists, but not be religious. It was more vivid than anything I have ever experienced. Hard to dream upright, had a psychologist check me out (just in case) and he said that if it was a psychotic break, it had nothing but good effects, and told me to leave as there wasn't anything he could do for me, but to feel free to come back if I wanted to or something changed.
I had a cat-scan (no problems), and have never taken drugs.
Spent the next thirty years studying religion, philosophy, science. I dearly wish everyone could have such an experience.
I am happily married, have a daughter, work as a teacher (elementary school teacher) and live a normal enough life, if a bit overly happy and loving for some. I have no book or cult.
God was utterly clear and unmistakable. I would have preferred a mission or message, but I'm grateful for what I was given.

I can't be sure but I feel as though God is speaking through me when something comes to mind that I shouldn't be able to know and it comes from my lips or in my writing. I'm so amazed that I think it must be God talking.

Can be extremely problematic - it's easy to be deceived. You can check to see if the communication has a parallel in scripture but that's far from foolproof; you can canvass the views of other Christians. There might well arise confirmation from other sources which are unaware of your word from God.
Words, apparently from God, are to be rejected if at all intimidating, threatening, cajoling or condemnatory.

He sometimes directs me to a certain bible verse, or sometimes a fellow believer will have a word of encouragement for me when I haven't even told them what is going on...and let me tell you he does speak to you..sometimes it almost seems audible it is that still small voice in your head..Ask Him and He will speak to you, you just have to be quiet and listen.

It depends on the feeling you experience. If you ask about something and you have a good feeling about it, then trust in that and do it. All comforting thoughts and feelings come from the Lord.

I know that God would never say or have me do anything against His Word. So by knowing more about it, I know more about when He is and isn't speaking to me.

it is a sensation that is hard to describe, and it can only be the result of Him. The Bible teaches that Jesus says: My sheep will know my voice.........it is the result of a living relationship with Him. Praying to Him, studying His Word, trusting Him, waiting for Him, obeying Him, praising Him. The more time you spend with Him, the more you get to know Him, and the more familiar His voice becomes to you.
