You make a rule and tell your kids they can't swear. They ask why and you say because it's my rule. Then you swear and they say "Aww you broke the rules"and you reply "rules are made to be broken."How many have said this to their children?

I was just wondering because I see some on here who condone murdering yes it's murder if you shoot unarmed women and children at the border. So those of you who support this idea teach your kids then that murder is ok seeing you don't tell them rules are made to be broken? So you don't feel you've broke a rule? What IS a justified killing for those of you who say it's ok to kill them they are breaking the law.Should I do you harm because you litter?I HATE people who litter. Is it justified?

I completely understand where you are coming from. We as americans hate murderers but then we talk about wanting to shoot anyone that crosses the border for such a little crime! Since when do we start shooting people for misdemeanors?? We talk about how murder is wrong but it's ok to shoot people because they are coming here illegally?? It's ok to shoot little children and their mothers because they are coming over here illegally?

I guess then everyone that commits a misdemeanor should be shot. It's a crime right? It's justified! Anyone that jay walks, kill them! Anyone that steals a candy bar from a grocery store, kill them. Heck anyone that lies, Kill them!!!! It really disgusts me that we have people in this country who are that inhumane.

Never! Rules are not made to be broken!

Even if I did I would explain that I should not have, however, a lot of times rules for children and rules for an adult can be different. This isn't do as I say! It is a valid reason!

I broke the swearing issue after the service when I found myself saying the F word every other word. I don't know how anyone could understand me! If you make an effort to not use them, it becomes much harder to use them after awhile.

I still think swear words sometimes, and occasionally write them depending on where it is going! Very seldom say them though!

The illegal immigrants here claims racism is involve in this debate. I never deny this. A while back I got a job as a manager. All te professionals obey the rules except one. All the assistants repeatedly violate the rules, except one. THey didn't like me too much, because I was by the book type. THey would always complain I discriminate between my assistants. After A while I told them if everyone follow the rules, there would be no discrimination. THe rules are blind to who people are. If there was a wiggle room then discrimination can occur. I always found that they want to be the only one that can break the rules and everyone else must abide by it. As for the illegal immigrants, they want to break the rules, but hold us to our own laws. Unfortunately, their violations allow others to violate the law as well. Employers are much more able to abuse people when illegal immigrants exist. Because certain people are allowed to violate the law, others would follow suit and use their personal discretion. Judges would no longer think its a big deal that peole violate the law and there is more wiggle room for judges to interpret the law. I've seen how racist use the deminish state to create a far more racist society. I've seen judges use their lattitude to look away to racist acts. A more stringent legal system would help diminish this, and make a fairer society. Do we really want to trust KKK member to use their discretion on which laws to follow.

I only enforce the rules that I can explain to them. For swearing in casual conversation, I tell them that real words are more persuasive...but that in a hostile situation, swear words are used to scare the other person, sort of like the way a dog growls. (I know this wasn't the type of answer you were looking for but 'What the Hell? Why not?')

I don't think I ever said that, as such, but there are many things that kids have to wait to be able to do until they are adults. Even though their parents have sex, we tell kids not to have sex before they are old enough and responsible enough to deal with all sex entails.

Swearing isn't as serious a matter, of course, but there is still the issue of discretion (knowing when it is safe to swear or have sex) that kids might not have an understanding of. It is still a bad idea to swear in front of kids who are told not to, but there are other factors involved besides the apparent hypocrisy.

I differentiate between saying forbidden words of society and taking the Lord's name in vain. One is a ten commandment issue and the other is a matter of how you look and if you are a stumbling block for a weaker brother. I tell them there is a time and place for them and what the public thinks of them and how they use them. Because of this they notice how others behave and have chosen not to use them in public becuase of the information I have given them. I think alot of cuss words have been declassified and put in regular english

I think that you took that argument to the extreme.

I occasionally have a glass of wine in-front of my kids, but I would not give them a glass.

I occasionally say d#mnit when I lose my keys.

It is not as much, "Do as I not, Not as I do"
It is called being human, and not wanting my children to swear.

Sorry I am not 100% perfect, 100% of the time.

But that arguement would be valid if someone was using drugs, an alcholic, an abuser.... you get the picture.

I have raised two children, who are now happy, healthy employed adults with only the following rules.
The key is knowing and owning the consequences of your actions.

Rules of the Universe
1) You may do whatever you want*
2) You don't have to do anything you don't want*
*As long as you are willing to accept the consequences.

Never, I always tell the little guy the rule and then I explain why. My ma always gave the rule and then said the old "because I said so" bit. I always rebelled because of that so I try not to do that with him.

I gave my kids rules that made sense. I abided by those rules as well.
I taught them that rules and laws are not to be broken.
Guess the illegals parents told them US rules are made to be broken...they were wrong and immoral to do so.
