I'm not 13, I'm 20! I'm going to my boyfriend's cousin's bat mitzvah and his family is going to see me in this! I've met his immediate family and a few others already.
The dress is black and except for an X, is backless.. in the front it's a 'v' shape. It goes to my knees.
Is it inappropriate?

no, your dress sounds lovely. and since it has the X it's not completely backless, and a bar mitzvah is a very formal event so there will be other ladies in elegent dresses as well. and if you are still concerned ask the boyfriend if he approves of your dress.

Since I am not Jewish, I can't really fully know what not to wear at a bar mitzvah. Since you are dealing wih a young man in his teen years, wearing something that is backless and exposing cleavage might be a little inappropriate. Wear something a little more conservative.

Well its sort of inappropriate. Maybe you should cover your back abit, should be to the extreme but I'm not sure about it being completely backless.

noo thats sounds very nice, its hard too find dresses that aren't somewhat backless unless you want to look like an old women.

Take the dress and put it on the oldest lady who will be attending the event. If it don't look good on her, honey its time to pick out something more modest.
