If you don't like it then that's fine NASCAR isn't for everyone but I think if you get to know the drivers and the back stories, pick a driver and stick with him for a season then you might have a better understanding of why we are fans. We are a family. Whether I like your driver or hate your driver we have a good time discussing it and watching and at the end of the day we all had a good time. Just my opinion.

I was once like you, then i started watching all the races. Now there are some races (Cali) that are boring as hell but then you have really fun tight races. If you have never been to a real nascar race that is a total different experiance. You should go to a Nextal race cause there is so much going on. People come pare it to the Super Bowl but every weekend. Its just amazing. The race its self when you see one live is awsome. Then start watching the Busch races and watch for the up and coming drivers and once you start liking those start watching the Trucks race those are some of the best races to watch all the time. Rally car is cool but its not on t.v. so when and where can you see it?

It's not the going around the oval, it's how they go around it. Not every track drives the same, even if they are the same length. You probably watched the California race which is basically a parade around a circle. Try watching a short track race 3/4 mile or less(Bristol, 43 cars on a half mile track, makes for a fun time). Better yet try this weekend it's a road course and those are a bit of fun to watch. Personally rally racing is kinda cool, take what's basically a stock Subaru Impreza add a roll cage and some racing seats and whip up a mountain in it. What gets me is there's some guys using a Ford Focus, that's scary I took one from Portland to Seaside(rental) and halfway though the coastal range I thought the thing was going to blow up, racing in one of those things takes some balls. Yes I lived in Oregon for a bit, but I won't hold that against you.

At first glance, it would appear that it is just fast cars going in circles, as you have suggested (and as my wife has suggested many times!). But, the fact that they can take a car that is handling very poorly, and make adjustments to it during the race that can potentially turn a horrible car in to a winning car is quite appealling. The communication between the driver and crew chief, and the execution of the adjustments by the crew members on a pit stop is simply amazing. Where else will you see 4 tires get chnaged, an adjustment made on the car, a winshield cleaned, and full tank of gas given in less than 14 seconds?!? It may not appeal to all, but it sure is appealing to millions of die-hard fans across not only North America, but the whole world! Give Nascar a try, and I bet you find it interesting!

It's the sport of the cars going in circle as you put it. It is exciting to get in the race to see where your driver is in the race. Also for me it's the speed of the cars. Just think of driving a car 190 mph on a oval track with the banks as high as some of them are. Now when you think of Nascar like a true gear head, that like speed, then you might like the sport.

Hey, I was like you.
Until my Husband started racing at a small dirt track here in Oregon.
I even then (to start out) couldn't find the reason to like it.
It was dangerous, why would anyone want to risk their lives doing that.
Then I got talked into driving a race car.
The adrenaline, the thrill of the race, just the pure excitement.
I couldn't believe it.
Even though I no longer race a car, I'm still hooked.
Watching those NASCAR driver's, pit men and everyone else at those tracks.
It's amazing.
The speeds those car's travel.
The way those pit men change a tire and fill the tanks of those cars, all within just a few seconds.
You need to try racing.
Or go to a track and experience it.
It's awesome!
I'm hooked on NASCAR, big time.
And my favorite driver..... Who else, Jr.

You over simplify the sport. You obviously don't know the work and money that goes into a race car and the athletic ability of the drivers to hold a car in the road at 200 mph. It is a team effort of owner, crew chief, pit crew, and driver. I suggest you go to a race live and your perspective will change greatly because if you go you will see much more that you do on TV and you can watch things TV doesn't show.

Thank you for not dissing it even though you don't like it. There's an intricacy that people don't always see. It's not just about going around in a circle, but also maintaining a car of that size going at speeds upwards of 200 mph, without crashing into the wall or another car that's a hairs-breadth away.

Try this please. July 7th, watch the Pepsi 400 at Daytona! It will be Breath taking. They run 3 wide, side by side, bumper to bumper. Oh and going 190 mph!! If you don't get a little excited, then I guess it's not for you. Daytona and Talladega are the just a couple of the better tracks. There's a lot more, but those two are my absolute favorite.
So PLEASE at least give it a shot. It is A Saturday night race, July 7th. If you want, they are running a road course this Sunday, those are fun too.

To fully understand why nascar fans enjoy watching the race you have to experince the race live at a track. Then you will understand the passion of nascar fans.
