I think people who rate an answer as "bad" when they have no idea what they're talking about only show how immature they are.
Sometimes correct answers get a bad rating just because some moron, with nothing better to do, decided to be 'funny'.
It's not fair because the person who's asking the question may be relying on that rating to find out which is the correct answer.
Many times the asker is fooled by this and chooses an incorrect question.
That is not honest, not to mention how very childish it is.
When someone makes an effort to answer a question correctly and the question is rated bad, it's very disappointing.
Many people here are not playing, they are being serious and really want to help. But a bunch of idiots won't allow them to do it properly.

I agree with you totally. Sadly some people will do anything for points, or discredit someone else's answer out of sheer vindictiveness. Some simply give the thumbs down to a perfectly legitimate answer to devalue it and give the impression that they know better and their answer is the correct one. There also are prejudiced people who will give thumbs down to good answers, not because they think anything about their contents, but simply because the person has indicated that they are from a certain country or the answer is in a certain language which they dislike. Some even give thumbs down because they dislike an avatar.
The other end of the stick are the natives who come on the English speaking site and give inaccurate answers either because they have an inadequate comprehension of the true meaning of a sentence presented for translation, or because their knowledge of their own language is flawed. Some "natives" think they know better than anyone else, even though others may be natives too but do not boast about the fact. Some will also deliberately put an answer that looks genuine and is, in fact, full of obscenities which will not help the person who asked at all. Finally some people will write that they are "natives" when they are not, so as to add credibility to their answer.
Then there are those with multiple accounts who vote for themselves to secure points, however inaccurate their answer is, as they consider Q and A a competitive game rather than a source of help for others.
One has to get resigned to the fact that in life, there are genuinely good and kind people who want to help whilst others just enjoy making mischief or are out for what personal satisfaction they can get for themselves. Some people feel the need to profess knowledge which they have not got, but cull and duplicate material from various sources to give themselves a feel good factor. I also agree with you that it is very frustrating to post a carefully written and thoughtfully worded answer and see it being ignored for something that is thrown out of a translator and completely inaccurate.
One has to accept that in languages there may be several answers which differ but are correct in their way as no language can be a carbon copy of another. However this does not merit thumbs down or unpleasant comments which imply that others are wrong when they are right.

I fully agree with you and at my beginnings in Yahoo's Answers I was very pissed by this ununderstandable fact.
I'm still seeing really a lot of my accurate answers being rated bad, with several thumbs down, but at this point I know how it goes and I don't care any longer.
I feel Yahoo's community is properly representing the different levels of behaviors you may meet in the normal daily life: people who are accurate and people who screw up , clever and moron, or respectful and uncivil persons, etc. etc.
From my side when I see an answer has received unfair thumbs down I always give my thumbs up with the purpose to correct the bad rating and address the asker towards that good answer.
Probably there is more than a single reason that moves not a few people acting in that way (a silly play, a personal dislike, envy, boredom, etc) but I guess there is no mean to convince them that what they're doing is really childish and stupid.
From my side I've stopped being annoyed by them and now I'm rather more pissed by people who answers questions in a very improper way ( for instance by using on line translators when asker had clearly addressed his question just to native speakers or by copying and pasting a Wikipedia's page in spite of the asker had expressly posted not to use that source he was already perfectly aware of..!!).
Edit # 1 - Here's the proof.... I guess it had not yet passed the time to read my answer and I've got a thumbs down (as well as others here above). Welcome here.. !!

I totally agree with you. It pisses me off when I see a perfect question rated badly, so I edit my answer letting the asker know which answers are correct.
Those people are morons and they definitely play here of wast their time while others are willing to help or are desperate to get some help.
Thanks
You have my star.

I agree with you. Some LCD can make you look bad just being a cowardly troll. If they want to mess with someone, they need to have the cajones to give a smartass answer- on their regular account.

I agree. I give thumbs down to those who didn't answer the question, are rude/racist/etc, or who cut and paste a lot of crap nobody is going to read. I give thumbs up to people that I agree with, or who put up a good argument. I give neither to those that I don't agree with but failed to convince me that they have a sound argument to back them up; I don't give them a thumbs down because they don't meet my criteria for that.
