You need to show your mom. Wear a pair of panties and if necessary slightly push them to the side so she can see the problem.
I would rather be embarrassed in front of my mother than not get medical help if necessary.

Is the hard lump under your skin painful like a really sore bruise? Did it just pop up within the last couple weeks? Is the area red and swollen or resemble a bug bite but without a head on the wound?
One possibility is a staph infection. If you answered yes to the above questions, then it is highly likely you have staph. Staph is a bacteria commonly found on the skin surface. It is rare, but the bacteria can enter through a wound or maybe a cut from shaving your legs.
I actually have seen quite a few staph infections lately and they are usually treated with an oral antibiotic prescription and over the counter triple-antibiotic creams.
YOU MUST GO TO THE DOCTOR!!!!!! Staph infections are very treatable but need to be caught early.
Also, keep the area clean and do not shave the area. Throw away any razors that may have contacted to the area.
One way to check your lump to see if it is an infection, is to apply pressure around the wound as if to pop an ant bite. If puss comes out, then it is most likely a bacterial infection.
Good Luck! I hope that helps.
(You are really young. I wouldn't jump to the conclusion you have cancer)

It could be so many things, so try not to worry too much, though I know its hard. If it does not go down soon though, you should see a doctor just to be safe. It may be a lymph node since these can often pop up in the groin region. It could also be a cyst especially if its in an area where you have hair. Lymph nodes can become swollen for many reasons, including infections, noncancerous lymphnode tumors, and sometimes cancerous lymph tumors. Usually its not cancer, but a checkup is your best bet.
I understand that you are nervous to show your mom, I used to feel that way when I was in my teens too. Unless it seems consistant with staph as described in the previous post, wait a few days and see if it goes down. In the mean time try not to touch it too much or wear underwear that would rub against the area. If it does not go down, you should seriusly consider a trip to the doctor to rule out something serious, even if showing mom is the only option.
I hope the best for you. Feel free to email me anytime.

well ! knowing there is cancer in the family your mom should want to take you to the doctor to be sure !! she needs to understand how you feel about her looking down there, so talk to her and let her know why you don't want her to look at you !! tell her how you feel about it and that you would rather a doctor to look at it, cause she's your mom! She may not be able to tell anything just by looking, a doctor needs to look at it!! or call your health department and talk to them about it , they may have a clinic there that you can go to without your mom going! They do see teens without a parent for other reasons, so just ask them if she really will not take you, just tell them !! see what they say! don't worry too much though, most likely it's something else but get it checked just to be safe ! o.K. good luck !!

Did it just popped up recently? If it did, it could be a cyst. However, since you know that cancer is prevalent in your family, show your mum the lump just to play safe. What's there to be embarassed about when it comes to your health?

your mom has seen everything. show it to her. Get over your shyness, your body is a thing of beauty and is going to be with you for a long long time. It sounds like a lymph node which can swell up for any number of reasons, even from a splinter.

Hi sweetie, bless your heart. I know how you feel about showing this to your mom...........but which is worse........suffering anxiety, or showing mom? You wouldn't have to bare more skin that that spot would you ?? It would give you great PEACE of MIND to find out what this is. Most likely it is nothing serious.......and the sooner you find that out the less anxiety you will suffer. BLESSINGS!

Migable gave you good information. Your mom loves you. You would let a stranger - doctor look, but not your own mother. Talk to her.

most likely, it is a swollen lymph gland. these swell as they fight viral illness or infections and allergies. treat with advil or alleve, drink lots of fluids, and rest. have your mom take you to the doctor if you don't feel better in 1-2 weeks.
