Actually, ALL alcohol is bad for 2 reasons.
1. Alcohol has about 7 calories per gram (almost double that of carbohydrates which has only 4 calories per gram).
2. Alcohol floods your system with acetaldehyde which disrupts the Krebs cycle and slows the metabolism.
It is one of the most fattening substances that you can put in your body. Drinking alcohol while on a diet is like having a cheese burger and large fries with a diet coke.
Here is more info about the fattening effects of alcohol:

Try light beer or white wine. Regular beer and cocktails are loaded with calories. Stay away from the sweet, after-dinner drinks like grasshoppers or Smith & Kerns. If you drink hard liquor, use plain soda as a mix, rather than sugary sodas. And, though you may not agree, I would limit myself to no more than two drinks per occasion. Sip them and they'll last a lot longer. Two don'ts -- (1) Don't drink on an empty stomach, and (2) Don't drink and drive!

I dont profess to be a scholar, but i do know the worst think you can drink is beer.
Wine or liquour dont really carry enough calories to be worried about. Just when you get mixed drinks with liquor be sure to stay away from the excessive sugars (coke based) or milk/cream based drinks.
i dont think vodka tonics can make anyone fat.
