the problem with this theory is that on cars, the air-conditioner compressor is run on a separate belt that's connected to the engine. it is therefore only compressing the freon when the engine is running. this is true even on the hybrids out today. i do know of a couple ALL electric car manufacturers out there that have utilized solar panels for recharging the cars, but i think it's a great idea to incorporate the air-conditioning units on these cars (if they have a/c) to some sort of thermostat system.

Yes. First, you must understand that all an air conditioner does is move heat from one place to another. There are, for example, DC powered, solid state coolers and heaters. You can switch from cooling to heating by changing the direction of current flow (reverse the two leads). Freon requires compression to raise its pressure to where it can be condensed at expected outside air temperatures, or cooled by something like water passing through a cooler. The cooled, compressed liquid is then admitted to a lower pressure area where it evaporates back into a gas, taking heat from its surroundings when it does so. Regardless of which gas is used (R12, R22, R134a, Amonnia), the principle remains the same. Solid state coolers are more efficient because they don't compress gases, they use electric "heat pumping" properties of exotic semi-conductors. Since there is no compression taking place, there is less energy wasted in lost motion and mechanical heat, but the materials involved are incapable of extreme cooling. However, current technology is sufficient to use these types of coolers to cool/heat, or "condition", air. Why hasn't this caught on? It's difficult to say, but the main reason is that it takes less room to run a compressor type system than a solid state system, and the price of the cooling panels are greater than a metal cooling coil and a fan. The technology, however, does exist.

Air conditioning requires huge power which if you want to take from solar energy it will require, at the present technological state, huge panels which will be impracticable. Also there is a problem of night when there will not be any sun light when the AC has to be run from batteries which again are to be charged.
All of them are uneconomical and impractical with the present date solar panels.

we've appropriate air in spite of the undeniable fact that it works besides as Bush being the President for the previous 7 years. No offense meant, stereotypically talking. yet we bough an extremely air conditioner for our domicile. Sweeeet. :)

Im sure with enough solar panels its very possible. As long as you have an efficient motor and compressor it would do very well.
