This that like saying forget about this job because you don't fit but put nicely so you will feel like you might get a call from them.

Is that what they actually said to you? Thank you for coming, but don't call us we will call you? Don't even bother with them. Any hiring manager who would speak like that to any candidate is not a place you want to work. They have the class & etiquette of a red ant. Move on to another place that will appreciate the kind of employee you can be.

I would call anyway, maybe if they see you are persistent and serious about the job, they'd be more likely to hire you.

It's what I do when I hear that.

They are basically saying they are not interested in you. I could be wrong of course. Look for other job opportunities in the meantime.

If they do not call you they are not interested in you. If you do not call them they will think you aren't interested in them.
