Christians don't go around calling themselves theists. I mean why do you have to use the word atheist so much? You can still be an atheist and not not want religion to be true.

Most don't... Except when dealing with Theists. ... We don't give a rat's hinterteil about your 'Gods', and usually ignore it.

“Most scientists I know don't care enough about religion even to call themselves atheists.” -- Steven Weinberg

Atheism is no more factual than religion is. They believe there is no God because they choose to. Not because there is any proof. Same as religions people. The difference is that religious people are more honest and admit that they believe it on faith. Atheists delude themselves that they have science on their side.

Now agnostics are another thing altogether. They do not pretend to know one way or the other. They don't have religious faith but they admit that they don't know if there is a God or not. That is honest. Theists don't "know" either but they believe it through faith. That, too, is honest.

But the Atheist? He claims to know for a fact that there is not God. This is dishonest. No one really "knows" because it is not knowable. At least with the science we have today.

BTW- a person who believes in a CREATOR but not in religion is a Deist. He believes in a deity. Thomas Jefferson was a Deist.

How sad that your religious bigotry gets in the way of picking up a dictionary and discovering that all the words for non belief or weak beliefs were all originated by christianity!!! AGNOSTIC – Does not believe anything can be know about or proved about a god. Thus they can still believe a god exists. This description obviously fits a lot of Christians!!! ATHEIST - someone who does not believe in a God – any God – not just the Christian one. But that does not mean they do not hold strong moral or religious beliefs! They can follow any religion that does not have a god and there are a lot of those!! PAGAN - A follower or believer in any non Christian group or religion. HEATHEN - is a Christian description of someone without any faith. Now you have all those dictionary definitions look up one for yourself HYPOCRITE!!! A lot of GOOD christians are indignant that such postings as yours make all christians look so bad and intolerant - they will all be praying for your soul!!!

I *only* refer to myself as an atheist when it is necessary to do so. The rest of the time, I do what everyone does and define myself by what I am rather than what I am not or don't believe.

"You can still be an atheist and not not want religion to be true." I'm sorry, but what??

I am not a Christian but don't go around saying i'm UnChristian...There are those who use the athiest term, but most people who are non-religious just don't label themselves...because to do so attracts unwanted attention at work and in the community..."He's not like us, shun him" attitude...I just call myself a heathan (not capitalized)

I call myself an Atheist because that is the label people like YOU gave to me. I would just call myself sane but that seems to upset you insane (theist) people more than the label you gave me.

It's not that I don't 'want' religion to be true.........I KNOW it isn't.

They have to connect themselves with something, it's all they have. It's those religious Atheists that come here to preach their "common sense" that are being religious and faithful to what they think is right that I laugh at.

Is there another word or phrase that you'd like atheists to use on here?

The same reason you tell everyone you're a Christian it's just a term we fit into.
