Sounds like you are looking for this specific article from "Newsweek" magazine back in 2001 (you could have just asked):

I am an Atheist. I used to be a believer. I used to pray and when I had a really emotional prayer (one of the desperate kind) I would feel as if god heard me. I have come to realize that you can get the same feeling talking to a friend about a problem, meditating, having a good cry or doing positive affirmations. The good feelings are a result of letting go of emotions. It is a release of pent up emotions. Nothing more.

Since it is subjective and ill-defined, it is entirely likely that the physical sensation identified as "feeling God" or "sensing God" is quite diverse among those who claim to have it. It is apparently an emotional experience, which suggests that it is prompted by the limbic system, the neurological components that have been shown to regulate the generation, processing, and memory of emotions.

I'm unaware of any further neurological study of the god-sensing phenomenon, but its study would make some sense.

It is kind of hard to explain...although it is a phisiological state...not emotional. I'm not sure I can describe it effectively but it could be compared to (in a very small way) to the sense one gets after taking a tranquilizer or an anti-anxiety drug. Not a very good answer but it is the best I can do. It is a sense of absolute peace and confidence.

When I have worries and I turn to God, I give them to Him.
It's like taking a tranquilizer, suddenly the stress and worries are gone because you know He is taking care of them for you.

Self worth and value that we are not a mistake. Purpose to exist rather than thinking we are an accident. Joy that even though we got it wrong, God has forgiven us through Christ.

There is no biological answer for this unfortunately. I'm a christian who can technically say that Jesus is in my heart- but I don't feel anything physically at all. It's all in my mind and spirit and conscience.
