Certainly. There are plenty of fun and inexpensive things to do in New Orleans--In the summer heat, you will want to be inside whenever possible; we have many museums to visit, such as the Cabildo and Presbytere Museums in Jackson Square in the heart of the French Quarter; historic house museums like the Hermann-Grima House and Beauregard-Keyes House, also in the French Quarter; and the World War 2 Museum near Lee Circle. You can also walk through the French Market for souvenirs, go to Cafe Du Monde for the beignets and cafe au lait; take a ride across the Mississippi River on the FR*EE Canal St. ferry, which runs on the hour and half-hour; once on the other side, get off and take the FR*EE shuttle to Mardi Gras World, where the Carnival floats are built. www.mardigrasworld.com Ride the St. Charles Streetcar downtown. If you have young children, visit the Children's Museum on Julia Street, 4 blocks from the Convention Center.
Other places to visit in the French Quarter cost little or nothing include the Wax Museum on Conti Street; the Historic New Orleans Collection on Royal Street, and across from that is the M.S. Rau Antique shop. They have some fascinating objects and something that most everyone would enjoy seeing.
Drive to CIty Park and go to the Carousel Gardens and visit the relatively new Train Garden.
Head to the Wyndham Hotel on Iberville Street downtown, and go up to the 11th floor lobby for a great view of the river and surrounding area.
Have a great time!

One thing that Barry forgot to mention. In the French Quarter, you will see street corner musicians, magicians, clowns, mimes,etc... I just depends on what time of day you get out there. They are all over, buy many of them perform right next to Cafe' Dumonde where they serve the beignets and coffee.
