I rescued a kitten from the shelter and immediately took him to the vet, they told me the kitten had an uppper respitory infection and gave me antibiotics and eye drops. The drops seem to have made his eyes worse. I took the kitten back to the vet, they told me possibly scratch, did dye test, no scratch. They concluded the kitten had conjunctivitis(pink eye). They gave me antibiotic ointment this time. This doesn't seem to be working either. I started doing an old family remedy- warm wash cloth dipped in tea. I feel guilty for going against the vet, but I want my kitten better. Does anyone know what I should do? I feel so terrible for this helpless kitty. Someone please help.

Do both. Don't take him off of the antibiotic. This can make things much much worse. Sometimes it takes the whole dose of the meds to make a difference and he may need to be on them longer. It's ok to use your home remedy just keep up with the meds too. Keep up with what the vet recomends. They have the proper schooling to beable to asses what meds need to be given. If you stop them to early it may not correct the problem and you could be out more money in the end because he'll need another round of antibiotics. Poor kitty. I sure hope he feels better soon. Good luck

First off, never discontinue medications, particularly antibiotics, without first asking your vet. All these antibiotic-resistant infections that are going around are a result of this kind of thing. People use the antibiotic until they either think it's all better or decide it isn't helping. The antibiotic gets to work, killing off all the REALLY sensitive bacteria, and then the person quits using it, and the more hardy bacteria get to propagate more of their kind. Use the meds the doc gave you either through the whole course, or until the doc says to stop.
Second, I wouldn't try anything else along with this without, again, the doctor's advice. You never know but what something in the tea or olive oil could render the antibiotic less effective, or cause more harm to the cat's eye. I know you hate to see your kitty sick, but the vet gets paid the big bucks for a reason - he knows the medical science behind your kitty's problem, and you need to trust his expertise.
Hope your kitty feels better soon!

Tea bags or tea on an infected eye are actually not a bad idea, and are an accepted human treatment for eye styes. The tannins in tea are very astringent and help to draw infections out from the eye - it's also very soothing.
It can't hurt him, might even help, and it probably feels nice. Just make sure that when you are done with the tea, you put his ointment back on. If it's conjunctivitis, he needs the antibiotics. Bacterial infections of the eye can take a little while to heal so don't lose hope yet. Continue with your full treatment, but don't feel guilty about the tea. =)

Conjuntivitis means that the the conjuntiva (the pink parts around the eyes are swollen. This actually can be caused by a virus and not a bacteria, so that's why the antibiotic may not be working. We had a cat come into the clinic with the same problem, we ended up treating it with a mild steroid. I always feed so bad for little animals that have illnesses like respiratory issues, for those the antibiotics could work, you just have to wait it out.

Open the phone book and call different vets. They are happy to answer your questions and that works a whole lot better than guessing.
I know littlebig cat has a good article on conjunctivitis, it's too big to print here

Wash kitties eyes with a sparkling fabric and a splash water. in case you will locate veterinary eye ointment or drops, positioned them interior the cats eyes a million-three times an afternoon. a community rescue might donate the medicine to you in case you agree to assist the cat.
