If you have a mut and do not know what breed it is, the simple thing to do is to go by the size of the paws.
Puppies tend to be the type of animal that grows into their feet. In other words, big paws as a puppy you are going to have a big dog, small paws as a pup, small dog.

If it is a purebred, you can look at the AKC standard and that will gove you something to go by. It is not an exact svience because not all dogs meet the standards set by AKC. Just like with my breed, the Chihuahua. The standard calls for 2-6 lb. That is a pretty wide range right there.

We are old and have many dogs in our life.. a good rule of thumb, if you already own the dog, is take the size at 12 weeks and the dog will be about 4 times that size at full growth :D

If he is purebred, go to http://www.akc.org and look at the breed standard under size. Alternatively, http://www.dogbreedinfo.com is also really good. If he isn't purebred, your best bet would be to look at the size of the parents as the pup should grow up to around their size. Generally speaking, males are often larger (in height and weight) than females.

well ,the size of there feet really helps , but if you know the breed, ie there mom dad etc you can guess, if the mom was a lab mixed with the same type of dog , then you will get a med sized dog, apart from the large breeds ,like the dane, etc you can see from day one what size they are going to be .

It depends on the breed. What every your puppy weighed at 8 weeks (small breeds) mutiply by 3. This estimate usually runs pretty close to their adult weight!
