I had a really great guide when I was in town. Her name was Angela and she was gorgeous and funny and had her masters in the English language. Her Email is swingwind2002@yahoo.com.cn Tell her Philip Slocum recommended her. She will probably remember my red hair.
If she is busy I am sure that she can find someone to help you out. a really nice girl.

I have been to Xian several times. I found a site to find good tour guides at www.itsaboutchina.com . The last time I had a very good guide name Lee her email is happyapple2008@126.com Had a great time.

im chinese (from chengdu), and i went to xi'an with my parents last summer... one thing: do NOT follow guides that stop you outside your hotel!
get an english map, and take the tour-stop buses. get off at the attractions when you please, and someone will be able to help you once you're inside. the other "guides" will rip you off xP
OR, if you have a friend, ask him/her to take you. have fun!
