Last year my daughter which was 17, and myself went for the first time to Manhatten New York, it was the best trip we ever had, first make sure you don't over pay cab fare, we did, and then fiqured out our first cab new we were tourist, because we were so excited, we then remained calm, and it was fine. We ate Pizza and walked around the park, and watched people, on our first night, until well after midnight, just stay in well lit areas, it is really pretty busy and lots of people were around everytime we were out. The worst thing is the people who try and sell you purses, and sun glasses, seriously, I used to think people were just rude, because they ignored you, but after an hour or so, I was one of those people who just ignored them, they ask you every 2-3 minutes, Gucci, Parada , every name brand (which of course are rip offs, but they are really cute, and for 20 bucks I bought some for gifts back home, but any way just say no, and move on.....As far as the safety goes, I really was afraid before I went, and told my daughter to just stay close, and watch your surroundings, and after we were there, we still did that, but we were fine, and again had the best time ever. It was a bonding experience like none we have ever had. So watch your surroundings, don't talk to strangers, and if your from Texas as we are, be prepared to hear poeple say" I just love that accent" every time you talk, it was a pleasant city, with beautiful things to see, and don't forget to take a moment and stand in complete awe- at the site of the Twin Towers, that was a very somber moment, but we prayed together for the families who were touched on that fateful day September 11th, and it meant so much for us to see it. God will be watching over you both, and you will be fine....Have fun Love Becky D.

Usually this area (theatre district) is always packed. Quite so, even in the late night, with tourists and good people like yourself. However, I wouldn't wander too close to Port Authority too late at night on the weekends. Apart from that you should be fine!

The safety of the area has varied a lot through the years. Right now it is pretty good. Use some common sense about dark alleys and excessively strange people.

We (our family) went to see "Rent" in the evening.....(RIGHT IN THE THEATRE DISTRICT) it was harmless.....Our kids loved it....the experience of the NY nightlife was the highlight of their trip! My suggestion...."Stay close".... if the crowd gets "too close for comfort"....Hold on to each other... Have a great time!!!
