This isnt the first time this has been asked, so I am not going to get into much detail.

No one really knows if it burns more fat or not. NOBODY knows for sure. Doctors disagree with other doctors about this, pharmacists, bodybuilders, etc..... all disagree with one another, even scientists. There are studies that say yes its good, but other studies that say no its bad because it burns muscle also. Truth is, your coach doesn't know either. If the top bodybuilders in the world disagree with each other, and doctors and scientists, etc... dont know for sure, then neither does your coach. My trainer says it burns muscle, my boss whos a pharmacist says it burns more fat. Its a highly debatable topic, no one knows for sure.

Just do whatever your more comfortable able with. Some people get sick or can't perform as well when they dont have breakfast. What it really comes down to is your diet and excercise routine. Work on that if anything.

You would want to at least put some fluids in you. You wouldn't want to work out on a full stomach nor an empty one.

The biggest problem with first thing in the morning work outs is making absolutely sure you are stretched out and warmed up. And again I would make sure I was hydrated.

I'm not sure how the time of day effects fat burn except it does get you metabolism up and burning sooner. But this is only beneficial if you keep the old internal furnace burning hot the rest of the day.

Otherwise you metabolism is only set to burn for the same amount of time as any other workout.

Actually it is good as far as the food goes but you need a couple of glasses of water before your should start morning exercise. You can have your breakfast after the exercise and studies prove that after the exercise, metabolism increases so juices or breakfast after the exercise will be digested faster, but you should not be eating befire the exerciuse as it is harmful instead of being useful because your stomache goes to work. To properly burn calories with work out, your belly shouldnt be loaded :P

My personal trainer with a degree in physiology explained to me that working out on an empty stomach will actually cause your muscles to burn more calories than fat.

I'm trained in massage therapy (physiology & kinesiology) and this premise makes sense when I think about what I know about how muscles work & how fat cells work.

You will burn more fat on an empty stomach than you would with a meal in your belly. But, you will also loose more muscle, instead of mainting or even increasing muscle mass.
Increasing your muscular strength & endurance does not necessarily mean making them bigger & MUSCLE BURNS MORE CALORIES AT REST THAN FAT.
So, knowing this, it is ideal to never loose muscle in the process of working out if your longterm goal is fatloss & a faster metabolism.

it is your body needs fuel which you get from eating. Although it may sound odd, your body does use a lot of energy while you sleep. Maybe have a small protein bar or peice of fruit, take a run, and then eat your normal breakfast.

the body is in a catabolic state from the nightly fast in the am. exercising in this state is extremely catabolic and offers no benefits unless decreasing muscle mass is the goal. the body is either in a catabolic state or anabolic state or transitioning between the two.

exercising in a fasted state actually has a negative overall effect on fat loss. the longer the body is kept in this state the longer it takes for it to get back into a anabolic state where muscle growth and fat loss occurs

Everyone has their own idea about it and depends who you listen to. There's is a book called "A Body for Life", his theory is to work out before breakfast and that you would burn 30% more calories, he also said to eat one hour after the work out to continue burning more cals.

No its ok to do what your coach said to do. At the same time there is nothing wrong with eating and then exercising after your food goes down.
