A capybara? Jeez, that was random! But in all seriousness, you might be an insomniac and that very well may be why youre having trouble going to sleep. Also, from experience, worrying about your inability to fall asleep only makes you more worried, nervous, and you break out in a sweat. Definitely cut out the intake of soda/caffeine even if it is at 6pm. Try drinking no caffeine at all for one day, and drinking that herbal, green, sleepy time tea an hour before bed. around 7pm (or before it gets too dark ) run around the block (for me, it takes 3 miles to completely wear me out) and then go into a hot bath. So, with the running, then hot bath, then sleepy tea, you should be able to fall asleep. But you must always remember to stop worrying about your inability to fall asleep. Take it from someone who has OCD--so what if you cant fall asleep by a certain time? no big deal! if your problem persists, have a doctor diagnose you, based off of your sleeping habits (try keeping a journal of your sleeping habits), etc.
good luck. and if you need any more tips, just message me.

Your mind is kinda like a child and it seems to lack discipline. You have to discipline your mind and learn to control your thoughts.
Try an exercise to use both hemispheres of your brain at the same time. When you use both sides of your brain at the same time it's impossible to think of something else. Counting sheep actually works, but you need something more challenging. Count the letters of the alphabet. Picture the letter A and count 1, picture the letter B and count 2. Make sure you are careful to really picture the letter and if you get sloppy, make yourself stop and go back to the beginning. Try to get through the entire alphabet perfectly. If you get sidetracked make yourself stop right away and start over, from the beginning. Don't let your brain act like a wild child. Discipline is the key.
Also, practice good sleep habits.
1) Dwatch television at least two hours before you go to bed. watching TV increases brain activity, firing neurons like crazy and it takes two hours for it to slow down.
2) Don't consume sugars after 6:00, sugars that are in milk or other dairy products can cause insomnia too.
3) Go to bed when you're sleepy, even if you think it's too early.
4) Wake up early, no matter how late you stayed up the night before

its important to work out why you aren't sleeping.
it's a good start to not drink anything with caffeine before 6pm but you might want to stop at 3pm. Try not to drink energy drinks like redbull, etc. AT ALL during the day.
Previously suggested, ear plugs work great I can't sleep without them now as the house is very noisy.
If you can't get to sleep, doctors suggest trying for about 30minutes, then getting out of bed and going into a DIFFERENT room, reading a book for half an hour or less, and then trying again. You have to make sure you don't stay in your bed for too long or it will become like a negative thing.
Have you been to the doctors about this? Because he might be able to help.
Also if worse comes to worse you can go to the pharmacy and ask for something to help you sleep.
generally something with Doxylamine succinate and Codeine Phosphate.
But defintely go see your GP and he can help you out if your symptoms aren't relieved after you try the above suggested approaches.
Good luck!
ps i do not reccomed prescription sleeping pills as you will become dependant and tolerant meanin gthey will only work for a few weeks before loosing their effectiveness.

Of course I can't find the reference now, but years ago when I was having the same problem as you, I read an article about how to put yourself to sleep. You have to focus on each part of your body, beginning with your feet, relaxing it and being still. I guess it's a kind of self-hypnosis. It sounds strange but it did work for me...maybe you could give it a try.
Here's a link to a better description of how to do it: http://www.umm.edu/sleep/relax_tech.html

try melatonin. it is a vitamin/supplement, not a sleeping pill. take it when you're tired, it follows your natural sleep patterns. it is actually a hormone already found in your body. it won't knock you out so you can't wake up, but will make you fall asleep easier and give you more smooth rest. i take it whenever my mind is racing even though i'm really tired. and you won't wake up groggy, you should feel quite refreshed.
and don't listen to the person telling you to have sex (unless it's by yourself), you're only 14, please wait.
