Man, y'all like some terrible whisky!

The best suggestions so far are Laphroaig (a 10-year single malt, I think) and the MacAllen 18 year. Those are both superb.

On a day-to-day basis, I drink Teacher's, which is the best of the cheap blended Scotch whiskies -- better than the comparably-priced Johnny Walker for sure. But I would say that the best Scotch you can readily buy is the Lagavulin 16-year single malt. It's just incredibly, unbelievably good -- in a class by itself among the Islay whiskies.

Other excellent Scotches: any Glenmorangie, especially the port finish, Dalmore 12-year (affordable, that one), Ardberg anything, Talisker 20-year, Glenlivet 18-year.

In general, anything single-malt and more than $50 is going to be much, much better than Chivas Regal or whatever other nonsense everybody is saying up there. Glenfiddich, however, is bland.

In 20 years of traveling and drinking various Scotch Whiskeys, I still have yet to find a decent blended malt. As for single malts, a lot of it depends on your personal preference. I have had $500 bottles of whiskey that tasted like turpentine, and $20 bottles that I truly enjoyed. As a Scotch drinker, the best I can reccommend is to always try them. A while back, they came out with a "Distiller's Edition" of several Scotches, supposedly the best from each of the major Scotch producing areas of Scotland. Of the 6 samples, in my opinion, 2 were unpalatable, 3 were pretty good and 1 was awesome. Unfortunately,I can't remember which one it was. Glenfiddich is the best selling single malt worldwide,Johnny Walker Red the best selling blended. Also remember that price is not always a good indicator to go by. Calgary International Airport liquor store had a bottle of Glenfiddich 50 year old that they were selling at $16,995. ( I lie you not) That's $630 (+/-) a shot. Does it mean it is the best Scotch out there? Nope. Enjoy, have fun and remember that blends are made from a mixture of singles left over from the bottom of the barrels. Also, as the old Scottish saying goes, "You're not drunk if you can still hold onto the floor."

In my opinion The Macallan 21 year old is by the far the most superior scotch I have ever tasted. Unbelievably smooth yet it doesn't lose any of its taste. At $250.00 Can it is not something I drink often so my answer for everyday scotch would be Highland Park 12 year old.

Hope this helps.

Johnny Walker Gold label. Blue is excellent but a little pricy for the everyday Scotch drinker. Stick with Gold and you cant go wrong

You are starting the Whisky war.
Blended I like Dewar's White Label.
Single malt Laughlin or Glenfiddich. Different styles both good. There are many others. Easier to anwer what is the worst. Hundred Pipers

Thanks Drew for the correct spelling. I can never remember Lagvulin

Any of the single malt scotches have better taste and flavor than the blended stuff.

Chivas Regal, Glenfiddich, Haig Pinch, and Johnnie Walker Black and Blue label are all generally considered premium scotches. It varies based on the bar you go to, as to what they consider, and personal taste varies as well, but there you are.

Johnny Walker Blue Label. If you feel like spending try out a high end single-malt. I drink the cheap stuff myself, hate Dewars and J&B. Best cheap scotch that I like is Duggan's Dew". Don't waste your money on the cheap single-malts, they are really nasty. Let me know what you think if you try a good single-malt. I'll check it out myself.
