It should be okay to drink, but when you say a "thing left out", are you talking about a cup of rum? or just that you've had the bottle for 2 weeks. If you mean anything other than a closed container, or something that has a mixer like fruit juice then NO. It could be contaminated with who knows what. if the bottle is closed and has just the rum in it, then it is ok 2 drink.

What do you mean by "a thing"?
I guess you mean a bottle? Anyway, it's not going to go bad...
the alcohol will keep it from spoiling.
It the bottle is not capped however, it might simply evaporate over time.
And, don't forget that rum was the staple drink for the sailors at sea hundreds of years ago....
"ho, ho, ho and a bottle of rum".

Spirits last for ages without adverse affects - even Bailey's, made with cream, is shelf stable for much more than two weeks. Of course, I'm assuming the "thing" it's in is a bottle of some sort. If that "thing" is like, raw meat, than your screwed.

The cap was screwed on right? Nothing fell in it and you trust your room mates? What does "a thing" mean? That could be important...
Seriously though, it should be fine. Of course, you probably already know that by now. Cheers!

If you are asking this question you are probably way to immature to drink.
However hard alcohol does not go bad.
